Back in June, while we were away, there was a "bit of a leak" in the water supply - a fitting had failed between the tap and the automatic watering system freeing several tonnes of water into our and downhill gardens. The leak happened just after a meter reading so a couple of weeks ago we had the bill covering the period of the leak...
£735!!!
The bill was accompanied by a letter telling me we had used more water than usual and may have a leak (no poo, Sherlock!) and gave a number to call to explain and ask for leak relief. Fortunately, we qualified for the relief and have a revised bill approximating the expected consumption based on current usage. TBH, I think this is more than fair and would have thought that we could legitimately have been charged for the water we used but be let off the sewerage charge for the water that didn't go down the sewer.
All fittings now replaced and checked!
