I'm sure all the pet lovers here will have remembered to make provision for scared pets to hide as best they can from the bangs and flashes at midnight (and probably a while either side...).

To those that will be seeing in the New Year with those flashes and bangs, please be as accurate as possible with your timing. It's bad enough on 5/11 when the whole week or 2 is seen as fair game - midnight is the instant that the year changes so should be when the fireworks go off!

We were lucky this year we only got two nights of fireworks so no prolonged nuisance. And normally most people around here are spot on with the fireworks for new year. We are going out tonight so the couple next door will be having our dog for us. They have two of their own so she will be in good company.

NIce one Nod. Our Chloe will be at the door gagging to watch the fireworks come midnight, but she's just old and weird :)

Just wondering where is 5 hours ahead of Zulu time, just heard the first bang of the night. Just the one, not even one of those cakes!

Have already had at least 3 lots of fireworks tonight :(

.....at least Benji is in on his heated pad and doesn't seem too worried.

Next door but one have already had their fireworks going off and all our two spaniels wanted to do is to go outside and enjoy the display.

Totally agree, Nod. The first fireworks close to here went off about five mins ago!!

Still, I hope the New Year is good for all.

I suggest all fireworks be set off on the doorstep of the person who allows fireworks to be set off at an un-godly hour......I have aviaries full of birds and years ago I had the most nervous dog possible...she could hear a firework from 20 miles away and then panic would set in.
I contacted the RSPCA and all they said was give her homoeopathy tablets...got some and you had to administer so far in advance that you needed to be psychic to do it.
Police were even worse - mind you it did not help when I said what would happen if I stood on the doorstep shouting at a fraction of the noise of a firework...I would be arrested...yes the laws are stupid.Happy new year...just keep the noise down.

My dog likes fireworks, unfortunately he's got cloth ears and cataracts, so I'm stamping the floorboards every time there's a bang so he doesn't miss out...:)

our cat is sitting up the window watching....

Some pets do like the flashes and bangs but most would rather hide somewhere dark and safe! Hope all was well for the scaredy cats and cowardly dogs and that NOBODY'S HANGOVER IS TOO BAD!!! (Sorry for shouting but hangovers deserve absolutely no sympathy!)
