There is a petition on the Downing Street website asking the government to stop proposed restrictions regarding photography in public places!

I think we should all sign up for it.

Here's the link :-http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Photography/

It's easy to sign your name, I have!

Anyone have any more details about the proposed restrictions? The details on the petition page are a little vague...

What proposed restrictions ? Much more information needed before I sign

"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Stop proposed restrictions regarding photography in public places

There are a number of moves promoting the requirement of 'ID' cards to allow photographers to operate in a public place.

It is a fundamental right of a UK citizen to use a camera in a public place, indeed there is no right to privacy when in a public place.

These moves have developed from paranoia and only promote suspicion towards genuine people following their hobby or profession."

As it's written I can't see how the Government could do anything but ignore it because it lacks specifics and would ask the question - what are the "number of moves"?

Signed:)

  Carn't believe they rejected it.

I love the reason for the rejection......

It was outside the remit or powers of the Prime Minister and Government

To be honest I'm not really sure there is any point petition Blair, all the people on anti war march did nothing, and a High court judge has ruled against the government over new nuclear power station and Blair said it would not change policy.

Blair just put two finger up to the high court.

If would just tell Blair I'm using my camera to spy on the public so I can stop terror attacks, he'll like that.

To those of my fellow TP forum pals, there's absolutely no force or obligation to sign the petition because when last checked U.K was still a democracy but many amateur & professional photographers like me who may have been deprived the rights to photography as a pure hobby & passion, I am sure they will not have second thoughts signing this petition, afterall hope is a good thing.

Signed.

I have e-mailed the author and requested more information and/or background to his petition ...

We'll see how he responds ...

:p

well firstly we need to find out what the restrictions are... this is the first ive heard of this and nothing on the web that i can see about proposed restrictions about photography in public places (although it would not surprise me) does anyone have any info on this or is it a rumour thats beggining to do the rounds, even the author may have got the information wrong or over did his reactions so until proof is sought as to the proposals maybe it might b better to leave alone, as it may turn out to be no more than an overly exited petition..but then again!!!!!

How would this ever be enforced? What with camera phones ar 3mp and rising?

Not going to happen, its another of the government leak tactics. They leak a story saying they are investigating banning photography in all pblic places which gets everyone worried then propose that in order to help legitimate uses they will only ban in certain places. The public feel they have done us a favour and they have acheived what they wanted all along.

How can a government that puts cameras on public street corners and public highways ban taking photographs in public places.

Since when did the SS need a reason for anything?
