I was in Las Vegas for the week covering the new year, whilst there I came across Peter Lik`s gallery in the Venetian casino.

He`s got some absolutely stunning photographs, the sheer depth to them is awe inspiring.

Has anybody else seen his work?

Apparently, he`s due to open a gallery in London in the not to distant future.

Wow!

Now they are something special.

awesome one day i will get there lol

:clap::clap:

Theres not much else to say

The photographs look good on the computer, but up close and in full size, they`re jaw dropping.

I did make a brief enquiry as to price.

And then politely declined......

LOL.

He has some amazing phots, a real inspiration. Also might be worth a look at the famous collectors section on his website which is a testomany to his awesome skills :)

Stunning work. Great find!

i visited one of his shops when i was in Cairns, Australia last year which as it happens is one of the main reasons for me getting more involved in photography. Like Minky said above seeing them in full poster format defies anything you've ever seen. They are simply amazing!

I too saw his shop/gallary in Cairnes when I was over that way back in 2005, it gave me some real inspiration and not long after I returned to the UK and purchased my first DSLR.

I also popped in to his place in Sydney too a couple months after Cairnes.

Simply stunning!!!!

I went to his Miami and Key West galleries whilst in Florida. He is very good although I've seen plenty of shots from similar locations that look almost as good BUT his shots in the flesh do look stunning. One advantage of shooting in medium (or large?) format! Someone I met out there had one of his 5 foot wide framed pano's in his living room and it looked superb, even up close there is plenty of detail. They also had his book about his five year project to photograph America, very impressive stuff!

I saw the gallery in Vegas earlier this year, fell in love with his shot of Mesa Arch in Canyonlands nation park, and drove there to find the place and get one myself :)

I saw his store in Cairnes as well. It also led me to really get into photography. He has some great mini coffee table books which I have. Some of his photographs are breathtaking!

I was in his shop in Port Douglas in 2001 in the days when he'd just gone to the USA and have to agree many of his photos are fabulous and the print quality is superb.

So good in fact I've got a 40" limited edition print of one on my lounge wall (not the one I originally wanted as it was sold out in the size I could afford, in the good old days as a rich single IT contractor :(), it's one that's very similar to the cover of the Midnight Oil album Diesel and Dust if anybody knows it.
My Mum has another 40" print of a Daintree rainforest scene in her house which my sister and I bought our parents as a 40th wedding present.

In late 2006, I went to Peter Lik's Noosa gallery on the east coast of Queensland. I was offered a piece called "Ghost" which I liked a lot. The price equated to around £760 . I was so so tempted and almost bought it but I didn't know enough about the guy so common sense got the better of me and I decided it was too much money to spend on one photograph. A few weeks later I got a call from the gallery, trying to persuade me, but alas I turned down the offer. That photo is now worth in excess of $20,000 . I'm gutted. If you snooze, you lose.

He's one of my favourite photographers and has been for some years now. I went to see a couple of his exhibitions in Australia nearly 4 years ago and have been following his work since. It's really worth going to see an exhibition if you can, some of the things that are done there with the lighting and multi-layered photographers are just astonishing.

I've been to his 'shop' in Cairns too. Very bl**dy impressive. Infact... apart from beeing a stopping off point on the way to Cape Tribulation - his gallery was the best thing about Cairns!!

In the WBFS interview on his webpage when looking at a photo the woman interviewer asks "oh that's gorgeous, do you know where that is?" and he replies "I hope so, I took the photo" Aussie humour is great :D

He certainly has massive talent and produces great photos.

I too have to echo the sentiments of Chump 1979 - visiting the gallery in Cairns was the birth of my interest in photography, although it's taken me a few years to invest in a digital SLR - thats what happens when kids come along...! I saw the picture callled 'Rocks at Sunset' but had to sit down when I saw the price. Then I went to the Woolpack (anyone who has been to Cairns must surely have been there) and got drunk on VB, after having bumped into an old mate that I'd served my apprenticeship with whilst crossing the road!

was in the key west gallery and completely fell in love with a piece, price is around 4300 USD for one of his huge panoramics -- really captures you. financially a stretch but within reach. is his work increasing in value as to make it a solid investment? i can't stop thinking about it.

also, i may have it framed by a framer friend i normally use, would you say that having it framed by the gallery itself (all which are owned by lik himself) would ensure the quality the piece has or doesn;t matter really? thinking the characteristics of the paper used, the effects of light off the piece are all what makes me really want it...

thoughts?

thanks

Howcome? Any of them know anything about photography?

He's a very good businessman, just like Ken Duncan, et al.

Nothing special in the photos for me though. There are a lot of people doing the same or better, they just got there too late / don't have the same business nouse.

Have you been to one of his exhibitions? It's a lot about the lighting and the effects external lighting can create on the image at those... from daylight to night and so on. Well worth a visit and then you may appreciate his work more.

Aaahh.. The woolpack, many a drunken night I've had in there. Good times! :)

I popped into his gallery in Cairns back in 2000 when I was on a round the world trip. His stuff got me looking at photography and led to me getting my camera years later. Some amazing stuff.

Some fine work for sure. But you would think someone raking in that much dosh per print would sort his website out  It was a PITA to navigate, and viewing each shot was a pain as you had to keep closing, then scrolling back up and selecting another!
