Edit My Images
Yes
Hey,

I am really wanting to get myself my own website. Not to sell any pictures, just one to present them nicely. Does anyone know of any good sites to try to purchase one? Preferably cheap! (poor student here!)

Cheers
Vic

Hi,

I'm a webdesigner and I REALLY like Adobe Lightroom's way of presenting images on the web. All you need (apart from Adobe Lightroom) is a domain name, and a hosting account. These are a good idea to have any way as you can have a proffesional looking email address!

Thinking about it, even if you didn't have Adobe lightroom, if you found someone that did, you could use thiers just to upload the photos to your hosting account!

Heres a quick example of how they can look!

Let me know if you need any help

I use Zenfolio. It's $40 a year which, at the current rate of exchange, is about £20. There's a whole bunch of options and templates for how you want the site to look, uploads at this level are unlimted and easy.

Take a look at my site at: www.martinspictures.co.uk

Oh, and if you quote my referall code of P8U-8RV-QBY you will get $5 of the $40.

I'm using 123-reg.co.uk If you really want "cheap" then they do an .eu domain name is 99 pence a year and hosting is from £1.85 a month......

Guys for all of you website newbies, If you are really wet behind the ears, then you need to go for an already set up one ie one of the gallery sites that are for sale as gallerys. If you want more licence to design as you would like it you need a coder or a decent amount of scripts. (Hosting with fantastico etc).

Also check the host for bad reviews online, true they may be new but if they are bad there will be bad reviews for server slowness and downtime. American servers can be pains in the neck, over sold and maxxed out and slow support due to the time differences.

Personally I wanted something custom rather than a pre-packaged template site as it felt more professional. I was lucky enough to have a friend that built mine based on my design however if you shop around you 'might' be able to get something thats slightly more tailored than a run of the mill template site that won't cost you too much.

Failing that the suggestions already given have all been good so far :)

Building your own site is easier than you think. Take a look at that CMS designed specifically for folio style sites.

for examples of it in use take a look at the 'participants' section.

I'm currently trying out webstudio.com on a 30 day free download trial. Very easy to build your own site, I'm a technophobe and I had four pages linked up and ready from scratch, no templates, in a couple of hours just trying things out without reading any guides, so it must be easy! You also get 24 hours free hosting so you can see what you site looks like and get others to log on a view for you. Haven't tallied up all the costs yet. Seems ok but there are so many to choose from.. clikpic seem a good option, £35 pa but only for about 60 images. £80 for 400.
