About the weather!! we are up here in Skye and it has rained every day for most of the day since we arrived last Saturday :(.

We were here last year and and had a mix of weather, and still managed to capture some glorious sunsets and landscapes, but with only a few glimpses of sun this week that has been off the menu.

Although I have a few weather sealed L's I don't take any joy in wet weather togging, the gear has rarely been out the bag this week.

If the cottage had not been so good I think we would have packed up and gone home by now.

I do not think we will be returning next year:shake:.

im not bothered about the weather ( rain , sun ,snow ) although it must be upsettign not to be able to do anything i hope the weather pics up for you

It's no fun going on holiday and not being able to enjoy your photography. A few years ago in the beginning of August, I spent a week driving up the west coast of Scotland and the weather was dull with rain at times all week. I spent a night in Oban, and the bed & breakfast owner told me the sunniest/driest months were in May and September, so I guess you're a little unlucky.

I did manage to put the camera to work during the drier interludes and the scenery was simply stunning. I guess it's just the luck of the draw with regards to the weather.

We're often over that way and I always think Spring is your best bet really.
 
Hard luck Mal. I normally like Scotland in September too, you don't get midgies as big as sparrows and the weather is usually a reasonable mix (at least when we've been). But a good moan doesn't hurt anything!

We were up that way a month ago, got pretty much the same weather as you. And midges. And we were camping, not in a cottage!
Hopefully, knowing that someone had a worse time might cheer you up! :D

Have you tried getting off Skye for a day? Sometimes the weather can be completely different a few miles away/over in the next valley.
 
Oh well, we're further south in Dumfries and Galloway and it was the wettest August since 1928, or something like that. I've just returned to the UK after about 30 years in South Africa and it didn't impress me at all.

I know you can get good shots in foul weather, but I don't like the cold and wet, so it has to be worth it!

I am strictly a fine weather tog and do not like getting the gear wet, I did get my gear out once in Skye last year on a drizzly day but all the shots were spoilt by rain spots on the lens.

The thought of camping in this weather has made me feel better :D it was weather like this that put us off camping on our first and only experience, that was in Wales when we woke up inches deep in water:shake:.

The midges were the reason we have come here in September, no sign of them at all this week but last year we did come across a few during the sunny warm spells, but not enough to case any discomfort.

Never thought of getting off the Island, too late now, one more day which we have planned, and we are on the journey home.

I even packed my shorts just in case:lol::lol::lol:
 
Taken a few minutes ago, lovely isn't it :) and posted after removing all the sensor dust marks, never realised I had so much rubbish on it!!.

My friend has been visiting Skye last/this week too. I hope they took their wet weather gear with them!
 
Oh dear. We head across to the Outer Isles at Easter each year and have had mixed weather most years - only one year so far when the majority of the fortnight has been wet though. We spend half a day trolling round Skye earlier in the year when waiting for our ferry, and that was the same sort of weather - I didn't even bother to get the gear out to take a shot of the Storr. :-(
 
ah but have you taken the Dawes you can still get out on that:thumbs:
 
Back home now and the weather is glorious here in sunny Northumberland :) I am told by relatives who were looking after our house while we were away that they only had a few showers on one afternoon last week, just a few glimpses of the sun now and again would have made all the difference to our trip instead of the wet mist shrouded landscapes we had every day.

I know it is pot luck as far as the weather goes and some on here have probably had good weeks up there but last week was such a disappointment I would have to think long and hard before risking another week like that.
 
Gary, please send some of it down to the Midlands as the rivers are seriously low and clear due to a lack of rain and my fishing is suffering :)
