I have booked a Portrait/Nude lighting weekend on Saturday August 7th with Garry and Lencarta but unfortunately I am unable to attend.

After discussion and approval from Garry and the Mods, it has been agreed that I can offer the place as the winning prize for a photograph competition based around the theme of photographing people.

It can therefore be any type of people picture either as a formal portait, modern fashion type shot, nude or glamour shot, street or enviromental portrait.

Rules:

The competition will run from now until 30th June. I will make my decision over the following couple of days and publish the result by the 2nd July (this should allow plenty of time for the winner to make their travel arrangements).

As the winning prize will involve nude photography, all entrants must be over the age of 18.

The prize is for one place on the Lighting workshop with Lencarta at Garry Edward's studio in Bradford on the 7th August 2010, unfortunately I am unable to afford to include travel and accomodation costs.

I will allow a maximum of 2 photographs per member and would really like to see some good or potentially good use of light.

Whilst I would prefer to see some new work, I am happy to accept images that have not been previously published in print or on the internet.

All images will retain the copyright of the photographer/member who took them and I do not want to use them for any purpose whatsoever either during the competition or afterwards!

These lighting courses are well sought after and are currently fully booked, so if you would like the opportunity stick in a couple of pictures, who knows, you may be lucky!

Please post images and any comments in this thread, if we are lucky we might get more replies than the last image thread I submitted (one)!

Nice prize, hope you get lots of entries.

Agree with the above...

I will try and do something over the weekend so you should get at least one ...lol

At least we can have a 1st, 2nd & 3rd now.

That shadow on the wall looks like a Blad!

Can I ask, can natural light shots be included?

Of course, as long as there is a person in the image somewhere, you can light it how you like, natural sunlight, strobe, studio flash, artificial light even with a torch if you want, or any combination of such!

A couple from me, one studio digital style jobby, and another natural light film effort...

So far, I haven't seen any evidence of anyone needing to attend a lighting workshop.

Not sure if this is allowed, shot it a week or so back and did upload it to the 'people' forum (now removed) but now slight modification.

I'll put this natural light one in, taken at a wedding a couple of weeks ago. I took the youngest bridesmaid into the field of long grass to get a couple of shots in the setting sun light.

Have plans for a totally different effort, so fingers crossed I get chance to do it before end of month :D

Been taking pictures of my partners indian friend and her family lately so here are two of my efforts. Looking at the quality here no where near the best but just glad to contribute. Well done Ed for doing this.

Natural light.

Go on then...

I've just bought a Lencarta Safari Ringflash kit. This photo was taken with it, but it would be lovely to learn how to actually use it properly

And seeing as we can enter two... this one was taken in a small village on the side of the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus (just in front of my parents' flat)

EDIT: D'oh, please disregard this entry - I'm otherwise engaged on the 7th :(

OK, here is my second one, managed to get out in the back garden tonight to have a go at doing this. I have the theory, just need a better location and more practice I think, but as Ed mentions potentially good uses of light, I am hoping it qualifies. Many thanks to Colin [hacker] for the theory on this. Basically, it uses off camera flash with a softbox and warming gel, tungsten WB and some not really dark skies. Oh yes, might have had the fan out there too. The aim being to get a bit of drama into things, deepen the blue in the skies. The low angle isnt really flattering but is as good as I can get in my back garden, any closer to eye level introduces roof tops in the backround :bonk:

 This is pretty much OOC too, just a resize and web sharpen.

Fantastic prize Ed. As I find myself reading the Strobist 101 lighting guides most days, i'll try my luck with two recent shots.
C & C most welcome and good luck to everyone who has entered. Some great work so far ...
