So "thread view" was a counter that showed how many had viewed the thread, which when analysed alonside "number of replies" might give you some idea of ... what? And how could that offend some people?
(I like "thread view" if it is what I think it was)
 
It shows how many people had viewed your thread.
Can't remember if it was unique users, or included multiple visits from the same users.

IIRC the problem came when you could see your thread had, for example, several hundred views, but no replies.


Personally, if i knew a thread of mine had been viewed a fair bit, but had no replies, i would assume what i was posting wasn't worth crit, for whatever reason.
If it simply had a low number of views, i would know i need to think of more invented titles to get people to take a look in the first place.

cause you used to get ' 100 views and only 1 reply' type comments/dummy spits. IIRC then search engine bots etc.. also increase the view count
 
You can still see the number of views on a thread.

Click on your profile-> view all posts by X -> the number of views are on the RHS.
