Hi there everyone,

Couple of months ago I picked up my Pentax SP 500 from a charity shop, and have begun to delve into film photography with it.

Although I have tested with a number of cable shutter releases and the mechanism inside seems to be broken :( which pretty much eliminates any long exposure shots with it

Does anyone have any idea on how to go about repairing it? It seems like it would be more cost effective to just buy another body if I can't do it myself which would be a shame...

There are repair guides out there for it, in general stuff repairs

Does the release work by pressing the centre button with something that fits into the opening?

Is there a screwdriver slot at the bottom?
In some cameras there is one. As a release is threaded in it can tighten down the pin over time.

That looks yucky.

Not sure I should advise anyone to do this but If it was mine I'd squirt some IPA down there and have a dig with a pin.

Yep. Looks like it need cleaned. Spilled coffee/coke or something maybe? Could have been used by a smoker?
I'd try some kind of releasing fluid, but only the smallest of amounts. Maybe meths or wd40 sprayed on a cloth and then transferred with a pin.

I appear to have run out ;)
