Hi all,

I have no experience with film but a Pentax P30n has come into my possession and seems to be in working order and I fancy taking it out for a play on the streets.

I'm after a nice prime to stick on it, 35mm or 50mm but wouldn't want to spend more than £50 on it.

Would anyone be able to advise on where I should be looking/any lenses in particular?

Thanks in advance

Dan

That 50/1.7 is nice, the 1.4 even nicer (there's one on the evil bay at the moment around your budget). Don't be tempted by the f/2...

I think if you want to use the Program exposure mode, you'll need a Pentax-A lens. These are also useful for digeri cameras, which tends to put the price up. If you're happy with full manual or aperture priority, the Pentax-M lenses are IMHO better built.

The place to find out about Pentax lenses (original and 3rd party) is the Pentax Forums database... now that's how to do member reviews properly!

Hard to go wrong with a standard Pentax 50mm f1.7 really. I believe you'll want to make sure you get a A / KA mount lens, rather than a standard K, though, to get the aperture priority your body supports.

Edit: snap!

I'll see what I've got at home.

Got a few PK lenses and I'm sure I have a mint 50mm f1.7

started collecting them as I was going to use them on a Pentax digital body but never got around to buying one.

If you want a 35mm, the Pentax-A ones are well over the budget, but a Vivitar Series 1 35mm f/2.8 should be possible; look for a Komine one (serial number starting with 28). The Vivitar 28mm f/2.8 ones are easier to find, though. Again, the Komine Close Focus ones, serial number starting with 28, are well regarded.

I've just listed a very nice 50mm 1.7 SMC PENTAX A on the evil bay along with a miranda 75-300mm zoom. Both fairly priced i think, along with an instruction manual.
