Hello! I read recently that the Pentax MX has a removable prism - would this allow me to use a waist-level viewfinder with it? Has anyone tried this, is it fun/any good? If so, how would I go about finding and fitting one?

You sure it wasn't the LX you were reading about? The MX has a lot going for it but the prism is fixed as far as I remember (I don't have mine to hand at the moment).

Oooh you could be right. Looking at my MX just now I can't see how it'd come off...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is fixed. Very few 35mm cameras actually had interchangeable finders.

The MX has a fixed prism, but I believe you can change the focussing screen. The Pentax LX has a removable prism, with a whole range of alternatives.

Maybe that's what confused me :/ I liked the idea of an SLR with waist-level viewfinder :P

^In that case, 'upgrade' your MX to a 6x7 ;)

I already have to stop myself doing that, for monetary reasons :P I think if the other half found out I'd dropped £300 on a camera he'd go mad :P
