Well, I had no intention of buying a camera today, but thanks to you lot and your showing off about kit I ended up on EBay. THANKS!!! £32 later have bought a camera and 3 lens:thinking: Anyway, obviously I am going to need a flash unit. Will any Pentax work, has anyone got a suggestion for a cheap effort. AND how will I explain all of this to my husband?!?!? Cheers ;)

Nice buy! I just want to ask, 'need' a flash unit? Why? An old film SLR with a fast, large aperture lens (at least one of those lenses is bound to be f/2 or f/1.8) and ISO 400 film will be more than sufficient for most low light scenarios.

Plenty of lovely old flashguns and you want one they can measure the light output on auto but ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CHECK THE CAMERA CAN HANDLE THE VOLTAGE OF THE FLASHGUN, this list is handy and if you select a flashgun for about 6v-8v, you should be safe for any delicate film camera. Pre 70s cameras are tougher and can take any reasonable voltage:-

I'd get the ME Super, shoot some film and see if you are really yearning for a flash first. Otherwise it'll just end up being unused if you don't have a genuine need for it, other than being another eBay purchase.

Two pence! :)

I found my Dad's ME Super the other day and its awesome isn't it! I have a flash unit, but I wouldn't bother like others say until you've fulled tested the camera, at ASA400 you should be able to take photos easily in dimly lit rooms easily enough. What I want now to make the perfect compact SLR is a 40mm pancake lens!

Huh! Yeah sure if nothing is moving, also flash is useful in bright sunshine for people (or other uses of fill in flash ) with their backs to the sun. The boot sales are starting soon so select a list of flashguns with low output voltage and buy one, how can you lose if you only pay say £3 for it.......be a flash junkie like me with about 10 guns ;)
