Hi
I have a few old Pentax K mount manual lenses from my film days that no longer get any use. I was thinking if buying a second hand K100D body so that I can utilise them and keep in my car and/or take places I wouldn't fancy taking my expensive main DSLR. Would that be a good idea or a non starter?
Thanks

Not a bad move, K100D super would be slightly better though or perhaps a K200D

Had both and seriously thinking of going back to Pentax, if you are interested I have a write up I put together explaining how to set the focal lengths in camera to use for manual lenses

Hello Rich
Yes please if you could send me a link? How does the 6.1MP stand up? Is the IQ reasonable?
Thanks

Will pm it to you Diane, if you used the lenses on a film camera it will all make sense

6.1 mp is fine for anything up to A4, the super had a couple of extra features (sensor cleaner and SDHC compatible) that I thought was worth paying the extra for

IQ was very good and personally think Pentax colours are better than the competitors.

Make sure you have a good set of AA rechargeables like eneloops and best buy 4 lithium AA's for a stand by, they are a bit pricey, but last for ages

This is a good site for everything Pentax and their classifieds are very good if you want to buy a camera http://www.pentaxuser.co.uk/forum

Anything else, just ask and will do my best to answer

Cheers
Rich

mjwc1......those are some nice crisp photos.....goes to show that you don't have to have the newest and greatist to get great photos.

Hi Matthew
Wow!! those shots certainly are impressive for the Pentax K100D.
Is the Chinon 300mm lens a PK fit or M42? I think I will certainly have to get myself one of those. Also which TC did you use please.
Thank you

Hi Diane

The Chinon is an M42, as is the TC, so I had an adapter on the K100D. The TC is a funny little thing, quite tiny, with no discernible brand name.

A good idea. I use a couple 30 year old Pentax K mount lenses on my Pentax DSLR.

Manual focussing with DSLRs takes a little while to get used to, it is not as easy as it used to be in pre-digital days, but far from impossible. This was taken with a 30 year old Sigma 70-210mm lens.

I found this site useful for information on the use of manual lenses with Pentax DSLRs

In general there are no problems with old K mount lenses on Pentax DSLRs but have a look at the comment about Ricoh K mount lenses on this site
