No
now this has happened to me a couple of times and happened again today
has it happened to anyone else?

i'm standing at a 'green man' pedestrain crossing and i've pressed the button and the light has come on saying 'wait'
someone then comes up to me and pushes me out of the way and presses the button again. i tell them i have already pressed the button and thats why it says 'wait'. they then tell me you need to keep pressing it to make the lights change quicker. They carry on pressing it repeatedly for about 10-40 secs until the green man comes on and then they say 'see?'

are these people dumb or what???

Yes, but maybe not quite as dumb as the eejits who press the button even BEFORE ********* LOOKING....

I've been driving towards a crossing (only me on the road), but quite clearly far enough away for a person at that crossing to cross more than safely without the need for the green man. But yes, they have to press the button, THEN LOOK TO SEE THAT I AM FAR ENOUGH AWAY before crossing.

My wife beleives that pushing the button at a paticular junction speeds it up! - to be honest i think its decoration. Granted she doesnt press it constantly. However at rush hour the lights change so quickly there is no point pressing it.

If i get to a crossing and see a car and no traffic behind it i dont press the button - wait fro the car to pass and then cross.

So are you saying that flashing your headlights at red traffic lights doesn't work either? ;)

Was that you I pushed aside the other day  .. I couldn't figure out why you looked so angry when I did you such a favour by making the lights change sooner

only if you are about 60, female and have died red curly hair/wig
if so then its time you had a good beating :)

I think that tends to work more with traffic lights temp ones, the ones with the square thing on top, which I believe is a light sensor. Seen a few normal ones with them too, I think they have already picked you up though to be honest and don't think flashing helps at all :p

i though they responded only to the blue lights and not jsut normal headlamps!

Very often these buttons are just placebos. Traffic lights work to a set pattern to keep traffic flowing ,especially during busy periods, to have them going green/red at all sorts of odd intervals would cause chaos.

Flashing your lights at them helps at night, I've done it and seen it work, not so sure about daylight though.

No no no! They did it all wrong!

There's a little spinny wheel thing on the underside for blind and deaf people so they know when to cross!
If you spin that, THEN it makes the lights change faster :D

some traffic lights work on pressue pads in the road. At off peak at night they will change since there is hardly any traffic. Have you tried the said traffic light and how quickly it chages without flashing.

My brother used to do this when we lived in Norwich. not saying your wrong though!

Every morning, on the way to work, I come up to what's called the "Evil Lights". It's located at a particular junction just off Cheriton.
As I drive towards it, from a distance I could see the lights showing green. "Hang on in there, just hold on for another 20 seconds, just do it for me, babe, don't change . . . " I think to myself . . . but no, with about ten seconds before I come up to them, it then turns to amber. It's too late, at this point I'm already "committed". I have no choice but to grind to a stop as I draw up to them lights.
And so there's nothing else for it but to wait for them to turn back to green. So I wait . . . and wait . . . and wait.
And wait some more. Bearing in mind it's usually 5 am to 6 am at that time and there are absolutely no other cars at that junction.
"Oh for ******s sake, change you bloody thing", but no, that light stays red. Staring back unblinkingly at me. Mocking me. It's doing it on purpose, I know it is. It knows me, it sees my car and think to itself "Ah, it's him, time for my early morning wind up". At this point my face turns the same colour as that red light.
Finally, after what seem like a lifetime, the amber light comes back on. My heart soars, it's like watching the sun come back from an eclipse.
But I quickly slam on the accelerator before that thing changes it's mind.
And this happens every morning. I'm sure traffic lights are intelligent things and develop a sense of humour at certain time of the day.

Then they cross the road before the lights change, leaving you sat at a red light staring at an empty pedestrian crossing :annoyed:

cant deaf people just look for the green man ? :)

the spinny wheel things are cool though, i normally use them when i'm waiting and typing a text on my phone

i've experienced that somebody is waiting continously at a crossing, so we wave them across, being ignored, flash them and again being ignored (by this point getting quite p****d off because we have to wait, only to find out their blind!!!!

I hate when you get dick heads who thing they are cool and dont brake till the last minute. Its unnerving. Especially when the driver looks like he just robbed an old lady

That's really out of order.
See, I just rev and edge forwards, doing tiny little wheel spins before braking.
It's a lot safer, but still has the same effect.

There is a set of them under the railway bridge near Inverurie on the A96.. Green, Green, Green, Haha RED! Now my theory is that it stays on red right up to the point that another car approaches from the other side and it does the same thing to them.. and has to let you through! You cant see the other traffic lights until you get through the bridge so it's a difficult call.

Early morning on the way to work (5.45am) red traffic lights become give way junctions for me. Except if one is a TP member ;)

I was walking down a village high street very late one night. No traffic and deserted apart from a couple of teenagers walking in front of me. Passing by a crossing one of them pressed the button and they carried on walking. A car came along, and having seen what the teenager had done ignored the red light and drove on. A police car waiting in the shadows of a side street saw him and pulled him.

A multitude of people to :annoyed::boxer: there isn't there !
