Pedal Power Thread

My new gear hanger arrived today so will try and fix it tomorrow.
Will be fun as I'm carp in bike setting;)

Wrist is getting better-can lift, but still resting on it is a no no .... few days left until Sunday...have to do it...no other way after raising so much money.

Just seen weather forecast for Sunday:rain and gust winds...not good at all :(

Question...I think my gear shifters turned a a bit to inside of handlebars after crash..can I just try to turn in to right position or better to take rubber cover off and undo them first?
Never took them off so not sure how are those fixed.
Thanks

You're better of rolling the rubber hood covers back and slackening off the bolt to avoid scratching your bars. Not sure about other manufacturers but the bolt on Campy shifter is really easily accessible if you turn back the bottom 2cm of the hood.

Castelli Gabba. Awesome. That is all.

Self QFT. Man that thing is awesome. Top half dry. Bottom half not so much. Need to fit mudguards. Also doesn't help if your overshoes disappear from the drying room at work.

nanotech's got me through this spring, in the snow, sleet and sundry crepe... they don't like getting washed in normal washing machine stuff - I hand wash 'em in rather than the "non-bio" handwash cycle in the machine that the rest of the gear gets...

oh - and QFT - Quoted For Truth...

(though if it's really true, it should be told three times ;)

I am not sure that the wife will tolerate another wiggle delivery. Hmm.

so....
I dont think I will be shaving my beard off :)
am not going to reach my target of £1000
But £507 is still hell a lot of money :)

maybe will shave half of it ;)

no rain this morning and I do hope it wont rain tomorrow...not keen to cycle in jacket :)

HELP!!!!
Changed hanger and and rear sprockets are touching sprocket from deraileur....have no clue what to do to fix that...

I think I'm missing one tension screw...
But not certain...
Let me upload you a photo....

Where from?

The cable needs to tuck under the retaining tab with the larger Allen screw.

Right from cable and above screw that normally holds it.
There is a hole and for me it looks like one is missing

Definitely the correct hanger? If you compare with the old one are they same length?

It is same.

Wheel in, cable not pulled in then it rests on sprockets. Chain is on biggest sprocket in front.
Shall I move it to small sprocket? But when I do it, chain is loose as deraileur doesn't spring chain back...

Tell me what to do ;) pretty please

It's duathlon time. Hope the rain stays away, don't fancy having to brake early to show down.

Oh, there was some severe bike porn on display today. Lots of TT bikes with the shimano electronic shifting and pretty colours. Felt good when I kept up with one on the hill, don't think he was impressed :-)
Oh and I did the challenge route 10km run 44 km cycle then 5 km run in 2:42:28, happy with that.

Finished the bikeathon. Bonkers route planning- way too many busy roads! Still met up with Lukas and my wife did her first metric century!

Nice one. Seems there was alot going on today, so many races it it's unreal. Didn't realise that many people doing fitness.

Me, Menthel and his wife had amazing day out doing 52miles.
They have done more as they cycled to start :)
wasn't too difficult, just shed loads of red lights and traffic...

Just a short one from me today - horizontal rain, 20mph wind gusting 40-50 - frankly it was more a test of your moral fiibre than your legs. Wasn't helped that I'd ridden pretty solidly for the last 4 days as well.

Wouldn't have bothered at all, but I've been doing a challenge (from another website) themed around the "Grand Tours" over the summer and I really wanted to try and clock up 1,000+ kms over the riding days of the Vuelta. Sadly, after all the "near misses" of almost getting blown off the road, I didn't have the stomach for tacking an extra 6km loop onto the end of the ride, and i'm "in the clubhouse" with 994.20km :(

I'm taking a couple of days off now - the new 'crosser is supposed to be getting built on tuesday, and today's ride put the chain on the Dolan on the binnacle list - so it's a new chain on order, and a couple of days with my feet up recovering I think.

A sad farewell to summer and a welcome to the unpredictable autumn.

BigYin - good work on getting out and doing those k's during the Vuelta 3 weeks. I would rather not have gone out though, i could not have left it 6 short!!

September has been a ticking over/ rest month after the summer mile munching (June 985 miles / July 850 / August 915). I feel stronger for it so far and ready for a 250 mile weekend at the end of the month.

Make sure you not only rest up in these coming days but also have a couple of weeks just casual riding to let the legs recover fully.

I'm intending next couple of months being more "smiles not miles" - other than maybe one more "Test 10" on the road (my monthly "status check tests" being on the Indoor Trainer sadly until maybe April next year) I'm moving back to a steady 3-on 1-off ride pattern with rides being no more than a couple of hours a day other than lazy sunday rides. That's way more gentle than the last 3 weeks.

Apologies if this is a silly newbie question but I have got the biking back at the age of 49 - what started out as an effort to lose some weight has become a great hobby.

I have been using a 2009 Dawes Discovery 601 which has a nice 27 speed Tiagra set on it. Recently I bought a 2008 Lemond Etape in superb condition and am looking at swapping over the running gear from my Dawes to the Lemond - I have bought myself some suitable shifters as the Etape has two chainrings rather than three.

My question is do I need to move over the bottom bracket from the Dawes to the Etape which has a Bontrager chainset?

Thanks

Dave

Depends what the bottom bracket is in each bike? I.e. square taper, octalink, hollowtech etc. are both bottom bracket shells the same width too.

I have to ask though are you really going to benefit from doing this?

I think the best thing is take it down to the bike shop.

The Etape has a much better frameset than the hybrid but the hybrid has better quality running gear (road bike ratios on the gears too) so a combination of the two seems a reasonable way forward

during ride on Sunday, I had cramps like never before...
we thought it might be food as I went on empty stomach.
But after conversation with a mate of mine, who is full time athlete, he says that cramps are result of dehydration.

1l of water for one hour of exercise and 1l after for every lost kg of weight
