Yes
I know a few of you TP peeps live near the Peak District and do a fare bit of photography around there so I'm looking for advice for locations as I hopefully have a bit on time Friday late afternoon/evening for a sunset and, hangover permitting, Saturday morning for a sunrise. I live about 40-45 mins from Buxton and will probably come in on the A6 towards there. Given I will be pushed for time on Friday I ideally want somewhere where I can ditch the car and take a quick stroll set up and work my magic (ok, may not be magic). Looking for sunset locations (let's asume the sun has been out rather than winter arriving as currently forecast). For the Saturday, looking for sunrise but I may have a little more time available to walk to get to a suitable location.

As I am not the fittest specimen and I will be carrying my kit (tripod plus a big Siggy for posible BIF) I don't fancy a 10 mile slog - 50 yards would be nice lol.

Suggestions please and links to your photos as examples would be good (yes, after some inspiration as well!).

I've clearly put this in the wrong forum looking at the frequency of the posts. Was going to put it int the D750 post as everything is discussed in there....wish I had now.

Anyway, after a couple of hours on Google Maps I'm planning going over to Ladybower reservoir either Friday or Saturday or both unless something else takes my fancy on the way.

Your better in the talk locations sections. Put a search and plenty should come up anyway. Sorry i cant really help as in flat Suffolk .

Could a mod please move this to the location s section to see if this sparks a little more interest. (Thanks)

There are a few guys which is why I thought about putting my request in the D750 page as everything is discussed in there (and I have a D750 to keep it marginally on topic)

Even less action in the Locations section. I knew I should have asked the question in the D750 thread although it may have got drowned by pictures of cats and dogs and people asking about which screen protector to buy. Oh well!

Well as you probably know, everywhere looks awful atm with regards to travel. I think the A6 is clear according to reports but typical snow traffic jams are causing havoc. Plan wisely mate and stay safe.

Yeah. I still want to get out tonight/first thing tomorrow but as you say roads are chaos (for no reason). It has just taken me 30 mins to travel 2 miles to and from a station near the airport. It normally only takes 10 mins on a Friday!

Going to review what roads are useable early pm and try and get somewhere.
Cheers for the advice :)

So, I didn't get to do a sun set in the Peak District as it had been chucking it down with snow since around 6am 'till mid afternoon. Even where I live there was a couple of inches of snow and the roads where chaos (even tho' there was no snow on the road!!!!!!!). Highlight (if you can call it that) was in the back garden.DSC_4949 Small.jpg
If I can get up early enough, I will attempt to venture into the Peak District assuming no more snow overnight.

The Peak District is superb at this time of year when it is largely locals only. (4x4s are for this territory, not Chelsea).

I detest all the 'usual' views, they have been done to death, so the challenge is finding new locations. Trouble is they do involve a hike, as far too many people would like to take a pic from the seat of their cars. :p

So its even better when they close the main roads (!) but you have to be prepared.

Alternatively catch a train along the Hope Valley route (Stockport - Sheffield) and hop off en route. Again more walking, but that should be part of the fun.

Well, the original Friday was a write off due to some spring snow that fell during the day that made access to the area a little difficult. The Saturday didn't have an early start as intended, but hey, I got there in the end. Target location was Derwent/Ladybower reservoir and having gone round a couple of road closures due to the snow got onto the road around the Derwent reservoir - somewhere I had never been to given its history and that I live less than an hour away. It is a stunning area, especially in the snow and I enjoyed the several hours I spent wandering around and was only curtailed by a pre-booked restaurant trip in the evening and the fact I took a little (accidental) dip in the water - bloody hell, the water was cold (thank God I had some spare clothes in the car).

I'm rubbish with the PP and I am a little disappointed with the photos which demonstrates I still have a lot to learn (feedback welcome of the ones I have posted). One thing I struggled with was resetting the camera settings depending on what I was doing; mainly tripod landscapes with mirror lockup, delayed exposure and long exposure then switching to big lens (Sigma 150-600 Sport) BIF (or on the water) that no longer required mirror lockup or exposure delay - clearly, I need a second camera lol.

Anyway, feedback greatly welcome on both the camera technique and also the PP.
