Me and the other half are going out Sunday to the Peak District to get some pics and have a nice walk! :) We are planning on going to Three Shire Head Falls, The Mermaid Inn and the pool, then Tittersworth on the way home.

I am most interested in shooting the Three Shires Head as it is a stunning place.

Anyone got any hints or tips to create the best pictures there? I will be using my Sony A200, 18-70mm, ND8 filter, will take my polariser too just incase and my tripod and shutter release.

All tips appreciated!

What time of day will you be at three shires, it's very deep in the valley so the light there can be tricky, if you get there too early then there is no light on the waterfall due to the cliff edges.

Take some wellies or waders as the best angles involve getting right into the water, for example, here is one I got last year

I'd knee deep in the water here.

Don;t forget paniers pool either, if you find some debris in the pool it can make for an intersting composition like this:

there isn't really a lot to shoot at tittesworth, you'll be better off climbing up the roaches and getting some views from up there

Three Shires - late afternoon so that the water is in the shadow of Cutthorne hill. You wont be alone ;)

Mermaid Pool is best with a good sunset so that you get the reflections. It's rarely calm up there as well so don't expect to get it flat.

Tittesworth is always best from somewhere up high on the Roaches. Late afternoon is best at this time of year.

Unfortunately I can't do sunset, which is a bummer, but will be at the falls at midday, so hoping the lighting will be OK. We most probably will climb up the roaches as the other half loves it. I'm mostly going to Tittersworth for the reflection shots!

Wellies are a good idea! :D Will be able to stay up there but not until it is dark, have to go and see to my horse!

Only if you get a dull day. They face south so are in full sun at that time if it's out. No problem if it's cloudy.

It doesn't have a great deal to offer in that respect, to be honest.

Well I have checked the weather all week and it says overcast so here's hoping!

agreed.

The only decent reflection angle you can get at tittesworth is from the road on the bridge near the entrance where the smaller side of the resevoir faces the roaches

basically the angle here:

but even that isn't great because you will struggle to get down to the water as it is very steep and then becomes deep from what I know. So you have to take a shot from the path and hope for a still day.

The rest of the lake has nothing interesting to reflect.

If nothing else we can have a brew there! :D

I'd go along with that.

One thing it does do very well, however, is sunset reflections - as long as it's calm and the clouds are very high :D

May finish off there last then ;)

well it is a nice cafe!!

But I'd suggest more you get yourself to the olde rock inn for a pint of the good stuff instead, Doom Bar is a regular there

I've never been there, is that on the right as you come down from the Roached towards Leek?

It's just off the buxton road near upper hulme.

If you are coming from hen cloud then after you pass through the village and turn right to go back to leek, turn left instead and it's just up the hill.

Heathen!!!!

The pubs warm and the ale is cellar cool so the temperature outside makes no difference!

:D

That is a fair argument! It also depends if I can get my car there as I've lowered it a stupid amount this weekend!

I'm not a member but I've found an alternative starting at pooles cavern that I can load straight into my view ranger app. Happy days thanks :)

Sweet.

Peaks are awesome - Dovedale is good and Kinderscout are my fav! Watch out for exposure, easy to get caught out with the weather this time of year.

i goto peak district a lot now for walks, but i never come back with any good photos, i took my SLR up a couple of times, first time i kept it in my bag but it rained a lot, took it out now and then, second time i had it attached to my bag strap on a b-grip so i had it handy, but was heavy, seeing that waterfall photo, im obviously going to the wrong places!!
