Hi All,

Not sure if this is the best place to start this thread, but I'm going up to the Peaks sometime soon, and was wondering if anybody had any good locations to take sunsets.

Also, any advice on how to take the best sunsets as I've not tried before.

Thanks,

Dom

Hmm, roaches are a bit far out for me. Was thinking more Dark Peak

You'll find any number of sunset shots from Stanage, Curbar and Higger. They get the sun both early and late, are easy to access and offer some interesting opportunities. It depends on whether you want to emulate what's been previously done or find your own voice. Finding your own voice in the Peaks requires effort because it means going to the places that other people tend not to.

Does anyone know if pressure and humidity have an effect on whether I'd be able to get a good sunset / sunrise? For example the weather forecast says the humidity will be 84% and the pressure 1013mb for the day I'm thinking of going out.

I've tried to get to somewhere for a sunset in the peaks but i just dont know the area well enough and then there's the issue of parking- not easy with little time to spare.
I've seen signs to Frogatt, Curbar and i've tried Mam Tor which i found very restrictive on sunset as the peak across the valley prevents the setting horizon to be in view.
Hope you find somewhere Dom.

I know the area pretty well, just not sure what type of scenery I should be looking for. Think I might try Higger Tor, car park close by, and I can take a walk along Stanage edge and take some shots there as well. A sunset with one of the strange rock formations in the foreground or the abandoned mill stones would be cool. Just not sure if the mountains in the distance would be too far away from there to be effective. But like I said, I'm very much an amateur photographer, just one who likes the Peak District.

One of the best sunsets I have seen was near Stanage Edge over Hathersage. It was in January though as I think the winter sunsets are more dramatic.
