No
just been after reserving three compact flash cards to pick them up with the price match

when i got there i explained the situation and said to the bloke "if you have any extra cards i will take an exra two as i could only order three" his reply was "yeah fine, we got loads"

great i think. no wrong

once i explained the price match he seemed shocked by the price but after looking agreed on it, went to get "the loads" of cards.

ten minutes later back wanders the bloke. "sorry we dont have any in stock"

he claimed to have searched everywhere and couldnt find them, neither could anyone else which was puzzling as his store checker showed he had 3 in stock

so all in all after a very unhelpful lot inPC World i have no memory lol

useless is not the word i would use for them

i've emailed customer services so will see what happens but i suspect nothing will happen

I went and got some this morning from chesterfield branch.. the way i was told to do it was tell them the price match after they brought out the memory card. So the guy came along with 2 memory cards I then told him about the price match then i got them as he could not back out...

Guess who Trafford Trading Standards get the most complaints about (no prizes)? :D

Moral of the tale is get the stock in front of you and then request the price match...

Just like what I did :) ^^^^^^

still not the point though, they advertise the price match so have to acknowledge it

Yeah your right about that.... But some people try and back out of it... Not too sure if it all down to commission?

possibly, had an acknowledging email saying they will get back to me but dont think i will get one

i am looking at a laptop to so added in that i did* look at some there but am looking at taking my trade elsewhere

*i have found one else wherebut had to add it in lol

Is there not another PCW near you that you could go and try?

PC World staff do not get commission. It is unlikely that they would deliberately hold back stock to avoid a price match either. It's more likely that the system hasn't caught up with the true stock levels yet.

If I remember my consumer law studies correctly (although it was a long time ago ) don't think a retailer is legally obliged to honour a price match, or any other offer like that. A price displayed on their website or in one of their shops is merely what is known as an "invitation to treat", which means they are inviting you to make an offer to purchase the item at the advertised price, but they are under no legal obligation to accept any offer made, even if it is for the full, advertised amount

this was what i found this morning

We check our prices against major retailers and websites every day so you can buy with confidence.

If you find a lower price for the same product and offer, we'll reduce our price by 110% of the difference – even up to 7 days after purchase.

This applies to prices offered by retailers within 30 miles of your local PC World store and the UK websites listed below. The competitor must have the item in stock and website prices must include delivery. Single unit purchases only.

To take advantage of our price promise, please telephone our sales team on 0844 561 0000 clearly stating the following details:

1. Your name and delivery postcode
2. The product, price and our product code you are interested in purchasing
3. The name of the Internet site or store offering a better price

Once the price is verified we can process your order immediately over the telephone.

Websites: items sold by Amazon.co.uk*(excluding Amazon Marketplace), Argos, Asda, B&Q, Comet, Dabs*, Ebuyer.com*, Dell, Evesham Technology*, Game, Gamestation, Halfords, HMV, Jessops, John Lewis, Maplin, Misco*, Play*, Staples, Tesco, Toys r Us, Virgin, Woolworths

(* Excludes Televisions)

Did you phone the number and ask to collect in store?

Flash in the Pan is correct , at the end of the day they do not have to sell to you.

I think you're being a little unfair to them for your .........., 5 cards ?

I've said on numerous occasions that the R & C system is cr@p and is at best a guide. The only way to be sure is to visit store, get you mits on the goods and then ask them to pm. That way they can't tell you no stock and you make a scene if they don't want to play.

There are several treads re. mem cards and iirc someone R & C'd told none in stock @ the pick up point, made scene about system, cost of travel and got them to pm some 4gb E IV's cards instead.

As an alternative you could always ring their pm line or simply get them else where.

i needed the cards quick, even ordering 3

anyway UPDATE

tonight i decided to go to the store i was told they had some, go there and guess what, none lol, so he does a price check with me watching the screen and then i see the gateshead store (where i was) has 6, 3 reserved so we went back and it was the same lad on the desk

couldnt find any, then he found 1 (strange that)

but he argues the fact there different (they have the newer 30mb per second ones) even though reserving through the site ones show 20mb per second. we tried and failed to argue a point despite him looking at both sites and showing the correct ones and no 30mb ps listed, i then said if i was to order the 20mb ps ones online what would i get assuming they are the same as the ones on play.com (they are which is where everyone has got them from) and he says i would get the 30mb ps ones??? how does this work when i order the same 20mb ps ones lol

he then confused himself slightly in it, they dont list new ones yet so in i an right, he can see i am right but wont budge and says "buy them from play.com then" (yeah i would, but considering i needed the cards asap (two cameras and 1 1gig card is good yeah) and your service is reserve and collect in 1 hour i need them asap so it makes more sense to buy here)

he then went to see his manager and offered us (at his descretion) £10 off each card PMSL. lets just say i would rather buy online and wait a few days than now give PC World any of my money in the future, price match or no price match

i am now awaiting a reply from there customer services with what was a very snotty lad, the lad in the other store was very helpful however

This is the thing with big retailers....a lot of the staff are part time and quite frankly don't give a damn! I worked there full time for a year, and always did my best for customers, at the end of the day...it's not my money, it's the companies so I went off principle that the customer should leave happy!

Things like memory (SDRAM, DDR....), memory cards....anything that is small does quite often 'go missing' instore! Sometimes memory cards are taken from stock for use in the demo cameras, the RAM is taken by tech centre to test PCs..and not replaced due to either lack of time or general human error! Remember that the warehouse is often the same size as the store itself, so something as small as a CF card can be hard to find, especially if moved by another member of staff!

I went all the way to Bolton from east Manchester the other day to collect a £5 xbox 360 game...got home and it was the wrong one in the box! I should have checked before I left but that was my own fault....knowing things like that can happen!

yeah i agree on mis placing, used for testing etc but it was his principle

"i probably could find one but its an Extreme 4"

he then comes back and oh look, its an extreme 3 lol

he then says he has looked into memory quite abit, went to chat to his boss (who i may add never once walked close to us and kept away) and then came back and said "i have my own camera to and know i always look for the cheapest stuff"

i did actually walk out laughing at basically how **** they are

ordered 5 cards from play.com now so give it a few days and i will once again be happy lol

 yea, my guess he is a part timer! The branch I worked at was 50/50 with people who knew their stuff (generally full timers who worked weekdays 8-5), and people who knew jack all (working weekends and evenings).......so woe betide anyone who visited on a Wednesday evening ;)

just an uodate

Play.com are great, service is fantastic, stuff arrived today and guess what, the 30mb per second ones

I'd rub my face in broken glass before handing PC World any of my (relatively) hard earned money. They're a bunch of crooks. In fact, all of the Dixons Group are crooks. Actually, I won't stop there! Every high street chain store are bunches of crooks!

I will give independent stores my money before dealing with anyone like Dixons and if it costs me a little extra, then so be it. Not that I have spare money to throw around but I see it that I'm paying extra for advice and knowledge and I know if I spend that little extra at an independent store, I can go in whenever I need to and ask them for advice.

Are they not all 30mb/sec nowadays? I dunno?

Took into account everyones comments re PC World, went in yesterday and bought a Microsoft keyboard and a 4Gb Extreme III SDHC + Micro Reader, £64.99 in total, Price matched with Play.com and only paid £29.79. RESULT.

considere yourself lucky lol

i went before to see if they would price match a camer bag they had none in stock

so we spoke to the manager anyway and told him of our problems the other day and he could only say sorry (after he said he wasn't in on tuesday )

said it wouldnt happen again, the lad would be warned etc etc, likely story

A couple of years ago I went to the PCW boxing day sale, they were advertising a graphics card for 25% of it's price, I was 3rd in the queue, as soon as the doors opened I was off like (a fat) Linford Christie, none there, I pulled some spotty oiks arm in a PCW shirt, where are these £50 cards then.

We've sold out, how can you be sold out you've only been open 30 seconds and I was the 1st one here

he goes out the back and comes back with one, here's the last one, I bet the staff had all the rest :suspect:

Must be one of the worst stores around for customer service, never even consider buying from them these days as there are lots of reliable & cheaper internet based companies

simon

I was after a SD card ASAP and called their 'Price Match' line to reserve a card at my local store (using a Play.com price as a comparison) I was told that if i'm ordered online (and waited god knows how long for it to come) I could have the price match - if I wanted to buy in store they would only price match a B&M store... Muppets.

I argued the toss for a while until a moron of a supervisor came on the line and went to Play instead.

PC world won't be getting any of my money...

It just goes to show.........

The best (by far and away) service I have had recently was from Dixons online....
Ordered a Panasonic TZ5 camera from them, delivered within 3 days but I wasn't happy with it.
Phoned their customer careline and the camera was picked up the very next day and replaced with another one.
Still wasn't happy with it, rang them again and they were so apologetic it was untrue.
I then decided to do a complete "about turn" on my purchase and ordered a Sony A200. The girl there gave me a decent discount off of the already competive price to make up for my disappointment with the Panasonic purchase!! What disappointment? It was my fault!!
I would not hesitate in buying something else from them....

Now Comet...
Don't get me started on Comet:bang::bang::bang:
