Anyone looking for a cheap tablet, PC World Currys have reduced the Blackberry Playbook to a starting price of £129 (16GB) and £149 (32GB).

Considering they run Android apps and a big Blackberry FW update is imminent could make it a alternative to an Android tablet.

It's because there is a new version due soon and the nexus rapes it.

Blackberry Playbook doesn't run Android Apps. I had one and sold it on ebay about a month later as wasn't impressed with it at all.

Pretty sure. Blackberry has their own app store. Pretty sure it's nothing to do with android. Could be wrong though.

You are. The App store has nothing to do with whether or not an App will work, just who you pay for the app.

if that was the proviso, you would also have to say that Cydia Apps dont work on the iPad or iPhone, because they are in a separate App Store.

Did you read through the links?

My apologies, I sit corrected. I had the playbook just before christmas last year and it wasn't possible to use Android anything on it. It would appear that the new operating system now lets you use the android apps which is great.

At £129 I went for one a couple of days back, it's pretty darn impressive best tab camera I have used and HD viewing is bloody smooth and crisp, we have 2 iPads and 2 Asus Android tabs in the house.. It's not going to pull me away from my iPad but I have a soft spot for it, size is good for chucking in the and big bonus for me is my deezer mobile account that I get free from Orange works on it so it's ace for that.

I've had one for a while mainly for its size and that it links to my Blackberry Bold but if I've used it less and less recently, I suspect I'll be moving away from Blackberry soon, its alright but the Android compatibility is quite limited as the Nexus at just under £200 looks a much better bet really.

Bearing in mind you can connect usb drives to the Nexus 7 (needs to be rooted) you only need to buy the 8Gb version at £159.

I gave in and bought the 16gb Nexus today, i saw the 8gb only actually has 5gb for user storage so thought I'd be better off with the 16gb considering its only an extra £40.

Only place with stock seems to be CarPhoneWarehouse amd it's supposed to arrive tomorrow, barring another CPW f-up (they managed to cock up the payment twice).

The guy on the phone then quite blatantly said the banks often decline large payments from CPW due to the high rate of fraudulent transactions carried out by CPW :cuckoo: and I had to phone my bank to ask for them to approve the transaction manually .

Seems to be a common thing as my banks CS (lovely English Call Centre, thanks Co-Op ) wasn't even fazed, just said "carphonewarehouse, ok, can you hold 2 minutes for us to arrange an approval".

Had an email confirmation of dispatch just before 8, let's see if it arrives tomorrow then...
