Just a quick one, the website for PC world and Currys is currently down. Last time it went down they offered 5% discount to people for the inconvenience if you left your email. If you're thinking of buying anything it might be worth visiting the site now!

(No promises they will do this again though!)

Thanks - worth a punt.
Don't need anything as yet but sure I can find something:D

Clever marketing ploy.

Could be handy but before I did that I wanted to see if there was anything they had that I needed, I couldn't get on the site though ! Oh wait a minute.............. :naughty:

No offer of 5% off - just an email to say up and running:(
Worth a try though

I was in my local PCWorld last week, it was like a barren wasteland compared to a few months back. All the games and books have gone, much less stock than I remember of the stuff they do have and lots of open space between the display stands.

Was a bit like that at their big superstore at Cribbs Causeway near Bristol in mid July. Swathes of empty space.

Haven't been back since but did drop into the muchh smallrr Bath Southgate store this week.

Unimpressed. I used to enjoy browsing and the odd impulse purchase or grab a bargain but nothing of interest at all.

Will they survive I wonder?

My guess is most of the stock is owned by the manufacturers

Once you lose confidence in their ability to stay in business you pull the stock hence the empty shelves

Have to agree with you.

The push to tablets, downturn in PC systems, Netbook pointlessness, Even laptops are pretty pointless for so many people..... they won't survive on accessory sales alone so the superstore Currys/PCWorld will eventually fall back on white goods and AV and live under 1 badge (Currys?). Looking at ancilliary prodhcts, their NAS units are sparse, so IMHO, missing the opportunity to wirelessly converge IT/AV/wifi etc. They push laptops and netbooks and tack home entertainmrnt all over the place, not sedn any demonstrations of a NAS supported wifi enabled srt up. Got great info at Richer Sounds!

As for memory storage, I have to say I never went anywhere without my portable usb hdd - now I use cloud services mainly.

There was a time I sould look forasrd to dropping into a technology store..... in particular PC World - no big, small or impulse buys there since March. £9.99 for a cheap SD card needed in a hurry

I was slways an "early adopter" so if they have lost me..... mind I do need a new Fridge-Freezer...

Will watch DSG for revamp or die issues.

The store in Southampton was empty the other day. Spoke to a member of staff in the Fareham branch (which was very well stocked) and was told that occasionally all the stores need to change their displays around. Some stores run down the stock first, others try and do it on the fly, hence some rather barren stores.

Makes some sense but a number of people local to me have mentioned the Cribbs Causeway Superstore seems to be spartan for quite some time.

Hopefully they will survive and with Pixmania in their group maybe they will.

Was a waste of time talking cameras with them though....
