Turned my PC off other night as you do, Went to turn on the following morning and was greeted with about 11 beeps nothing on my monitor just a black screen reset and same again.

Its not my monitor as i`ve checked that and all is well so i cleaned the inside of PC out (dust) and removed the components and again cleaned these also swapd the RAM around (made no diff), Turn on and more beeps :'(

PC has been off all day and i thought id take another look just now but it wont even turn ON? nothing, kaput, nishh!

Anyone have any ideas :bang:

More than likely it'll be power supply failure...can you lay your hands on a known good?

Very possible that there was an electrical surge or component failure on the PSU - if you're in luck then a swap out will sort it. However, there is a small chance of damage to other components, the only way you'll know is to start swapping bits with known good components.

Cheers,
James

Well i'll take the PC to my old fellas and try his PSU :naughty:

Depending on which BIOS you have the beep codes will vary a bit - here's a good start http://www.pantherproducts.co.uk/Articles/Motherboard/BIOSbeep.shtml

Count the number of beeps on power up and the list should tell you what is wrong.

oooooh... thats good, just not sure what bios im using, MOBO is asus 939?

939 is the socket type (in your case for AMD Processors), there will be an actual part number on the motherboard somewhere. Something along the lines of K8MS-VX or similar...sadly motherboard manufacturers rarely bother with a 'snappy' title for their products ;)

Cheers,
James

Ok found a bit more info on the MOBO its
ASRock 939 Dual-SATA2 with AMI bios

turned it on before and came on but was greated with the beeps:bang: -

2 quick beeps followed by 9 normal beeps

Pantherproducts.co.uk says;

2beeps - Parity error in the Base (1st 64K) of memory
9 beeps - The ROM checksum does not match that of the BIOS

or maybe its 11 beeps:shrug:

11 beeps -The cache memory test has failed. Cache memory will be disabled. *** DO NOT enable it ***

EITHER way i have not got a clue?

just a note though i put my old ATI GFX card in (AGP) and then the pc did NOT turn on at all...

thanks again:bonk:

Cache memory would be on the processor wouldn't it?, Phoenix codes 4-4-3 says it's a coprocessor problem which sounds similar. Could be your cpu that's gone bad.

beeps mean errors described.

the best option is to print out all the error codes if you can
then disconnect everything from the motherboard like HDD, memory and gfx.

then add them back one at a time.
You should get the "no memory inserted" beep first. so you replace the memory
and work from there.
If you get another beep code then it could be something more fundemental with the motherbaord.
First call for me would be to reset the BIOS. that means removing the CMOS battery (like a flat watch battery) and setting the reset bios Jumper switch.
this will all be in the manual,. failing that remove the battery and hold down the power button for 30 seconds, that seems to wipe a few settings.

Just read the above post. It's possible your CPU has died...have you been overclocking it? is the heat sink and fan seated properly still?
I wouldn't remove the CPU unless you know what you're doing. It's not hard but it is a bit daunting for some the first time

cheers for the help guys, before my died the cpu temp was at 70C which i did think was a tad warm.

I'm starting thing think its the CPU, as i swaped all ram over and tried GFX without the GFX card but no luck....

i hear new pc build with quad core power calling me ;) just hope i can save my C drive!!!!

shifting to a better bit for you :)
