Hi John, if I am reading this right you have hooked it up and have fired up the monitor and PC. You should have an option in windows to choose display 1 and 2. What graphics card do you have and which OS are you running?

Switch on the TV and laptop without them connected and when the laptop is connected and you have the correct input on the TV selected, try inserting the HDMI lead in the laptop.

I'm using win 7 64 bit, on board graphics (gigabyte H55M-UD2H). I used to have the option to choose which display, but that has gone only shows display 1.

trying what you have said arad85, the monitor switches off and on the tv is saids no video

Try a different HDMI socket on the TV. Maybe unplug the blu-ray player and put the PC on that one. The socket you are using may be disabled in some TV settings menu somewhere is all I'm thinking.

You are getting no option on the PC because it cannot detect a display.

Have you made sure you're on the latest Intel chipset drivers?

As I understand it, once the connection is made to the TV, there is no display on the PC. If that's the case, it's seeing the display.

I'm wondering if the drivers are set to duplicate the display and it can't handle the resolution (you haven't moved from an HD Ready TV to a full HDTV have you?)

all drivers etc upto date.
old tv was hd well i think it was LG 37LD450
I have tried a few different resolutions by setting it before plugging in but no luck.
its funny how it starts to display on both before disappearing.
I have tried different hdmi sockets on the tv

What happens if you have only the TV plugged in (no monitor)?

How about looking in the event viewer for some clues.

Boot with only the monitor attached and look in: Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Event Viewer and with Event Viewer (local) selected see if there are any Critical/Error/Warning messages that are video related (middle panel, under summary of Administrative Events)

I can't see any video related things, mainly kennel power ones

Have you tried reducing the resolution that the TV is trying to display - or, try reducing the refresh rate.

If the TV can't cope with the resolution/refresh that you're pumping into it, it'll just not display anything.

thanks jokeruk, I've been try this all combos I can think of.
I have run a driver check program from gigabyte and is saids I have

display adapters- intel hd graphics - installed 2011.02.11 but states that 2011.03.06 is the best one.
how do I change it pls

thanks Neil, will try again in the morning. I have been trying different ones, but will go though them all

Odd that it shows briefly then goes but does suggest power problems. Just looked at Intels info page on 'HD Graphics' and it says a laptop may have power problems if running on battery.

All the listings in the event log have a date and time against them. Try plugging the TV and see what it records for that time.

hi tried different res's etc. no luck.
hi Robert I'm using a desktop pc, which did work before on another tv.

noticed today that I can't move the highlight from computer only when I press the windows key and p. this used to work , but now I cannot pick any other monitor/tv
think this may be the problem. I have no idea why this has locked

hi Neil, I only have one lead, one socket on the back of pc, but 4 on the tv, I have tried all 4 and at different res's as per the tv manual.
I'm sure is the pc end and its to do with windows

Test this out:
When connected to the monitor only, click on Start, right click My Computer, click on Manage, click on Device Manager. Click the arrow to the left of Display adapters to expand it. Right click the graphics adapter that appears, click on Disable. (This will be the state of the graphics driver as the computer boots, so you should see it on the TV now).
Now disconnect the monitor and connect the HDMI cable for the TV.
Do you now see the output on the TV?

sorry i meant the cable.

there isnt anything persay in windows that will stop it, what graphics card is it on that board? might be the HDCP is being overly picky.

hi done it
many thanks for all your help, it saved me from hitting things with a hammer.

I unpluged the hmdi lead from the pc and my scanner started. unplugged scanner.
plugged hdmi lead back in and monitor goes blank. whilst in this state a pres the windows key and 'p' use the arrow keys twice to what I think is extended. monitor comes back on. open up display -screen resolution and set at recommeded. now have blue screen on tv and normal on monitor, but can drag what I want to tv. is this the best set up for watching films via internet?

many thanks again
