Pc spec help.

I currently use a laptop for my photo editing but its dieing on its knees these days so I want to replace with a desktop can anyone help me with the sort of specs I need and example of components I am on a budget so cheaper the better.

Main requirement is it must run lightroom and photoshop at the same time and be smooth going between each while loading and saving raw files and needs to use it for web browsing email etc.

I don't like new windows so prefer to run vista or 7 and i need to be able to plug in various portable hard drives

Any takers

I tend to spend all my money on photo gear rather than computer my laptop always been fine with it I have it hooked up to IPS monitor its more the other bits I'm not good with computers what's an i5

i5 = processor type.

If you want to run PS & LR at the same time, 8GB of memory is a must - 16GB is preferred (not many laptops come with this).

If you feel confident/know someone who can install the O/S, you coulkd do worse than: http://www.ebuyer.com/411061-zoostorm-laptop-7873-9042 and install Win 7 Home Premium: http://www.ebuyer.com/259863-microsoft-windows-7-home-premium-w-sp1-licence-and-media-1-gfc-02050

(note you will NEED a 64 bit O/S to use more than 3.2GB of memory). £470 and you've got a pretty powerful PC....

Oo... missed the desktop replacement...

I would suggest i3 minimum. My imac has i3 CPU and it runs fine. Not had any CPU bottlenecks. Faster is obviously better.

The biggest performance upgrade though would be a SSD hard disk. So I'd suggest getting a PC with both. SSD as primary boot and a traditional disk as slave for storing photos etc.

You already have IPS monitor so keep that.

What benefit is the SSD???? Thanks for your help so far guys
