Pc keeps rebooting-can't do anything!!

Which is why I either refuse when asked, or do it for free.

Though I did get a pub lunch out of a work colleague who managed to re-install Windows on her computer by mistake (she had a problem with MS Office, went to reinstall and put the wrong Microsoft CD in the drive) and "lost" all her programs and data (data was backed up).

Not being an IT person, it's the first time I've seen what Windows does if you install it again to the same partition, renames a load of the important directories out of the way before writing the new ones, so you can put them back from the recovery shell (or whatever its called). A bit of bashing away at the prompt and everything was back how it was before she started and I got a free lunch :D .

To be fair there's a couple of prompts telling you it's going to overwrite everything and some program's might not work again.
People just don't read these, just assume it means click yes to continue

I have a fantastic computer shop near me, the guy who owns it really knows his stuff

I had a hard drive crash on me (Maxtor) everything gone including my 3000 clients. Took it to him and what a guy, unbelievable, he managed to extract my business program but said there was definate hard drive failure by the codes that he got. So he sent it of to Maxtor ,they agreed it had failed and sent back a larger hard drive to replace the failed one. This new hard drive the guy replaced in the computer and set it all up for me.
needless to say I owe him a great deal of thanks and now back up in 6 different places.

Consequently I have bought another computer from him and on the odd time I get a problem guess who I turn to first. He has never let me down. if there ever was a computer god thats him

I am only too willing to give his details if anyone has computer problems near where I live Cannock/ Walsall area via PM
