Hi, I'm having a few issues with the wiring to my PCM hard drive. I had to remove a faulty drive ( D drive) from my PC. I was taking the drive out and knocked cables as it was tight. Now my PCM comes up saying" reboot and select proper drive". It doesn't show my C drive at all and only offers my DVD drive to boot from.

Now I'm sure it's the wiring- I have a main Sata drive. I have the following wiring-

Red cable to red connection on motherboard- is this to a Sata 11 connection?
Orange cable identical to above to orange on motherboard- right above red connection.
A black connection with Sata written on it and 5 coloured wires from it going to top of motherboard somewhere.

So what connections go into my C drive? Anything else I need to do?

Mate pics would help as different mobo manu's use different colours.

TBH the sata connection should be obvious on the mobo with it actually marked as sata 0, 1, 2, 3 etc, so make sure the drive is plugged into the 1st port, usually of the sata connections which are mostly located next to eachother & the drive has the power cable plugged into it aswell which is a thin connector abour inch in length.

Sata has a L shaped connector on the drive & cable so easily identified :)

Yeah the connectors are tbh very flimsy, not like the older molex which were to tough to the point you couldnt get some into drives or the poxy contacts would spread to much or too far inward & thus would lose power or none at all.

Agreed.

Not always.
Correction - the actual plug inside is L shaped - at the time I was thinking that you meant the cable was at a right angle to the plug...... Apologies for the confusion - it happens after an 18 hour shift!
Cheers,

Ste
