Normally I make all my online puchases for goods by credit card, but this time, where I intend to make a purchase, they prefer Paypal. Is it me, or can the set up process be a nightmare. A week ago, set up the account, and then requested a higher spending limit, but had to go through the nonsense of waiting for two small ammounts to be sent to my bank account... a week later still waiting. At the end of the day, if I am puting up cards, with sufficient credit, can't see what their problem is

Paypal is a bit awkward at first, but then I guess with the amount of fraud that goes on...

You have much better consumer protection paying directly with your credit card.

You only get Paypal protection on Ebay. Off Ebay, its worthless.

Many credit card companies will not support Chargebacks if via Paypal, so you are losing Consumer Credit Act protection.

I would avoid any online seller who wanted Paypal over direct credit cards.

Nooo, doesn't have to be through Ebay to get buyer projection - you do need to be careful though as not all sellers have it.

Always read the small print - then tell me why Paypal is better than credit card ;)

13.5 PayPal Buyer Complaint Policy

What is the PayPal Buyer Complaint Policy?
It is PayPal’s process to help you resolve a problem directly with the seller through the PayPal Resolution Center for purchases that are not eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection.

The PayPal Buyer Complaint Policy is similar to PayPal Buyer Protection in that it enables buyers to file Disputes for Items Not Received (INR), or for items that are Significantly Not as Described (SNAD). By filing a Dispute, you can communicate with the seller and attempt to resolve the problem. If you are unable to resolve the problem, you may escalate an Item Not Received (INR) Dispute to a Claim – but you may not escalate a Significantly Not as Described Dispute to a Claim. You may not file a dispute for a Personal Payment.

Even though you may escalate an Item Not Received Dispute to a Claim, you are not guaranteed recovery. If the Claim is decided in your favor, your recovery is limited to the amounts that PayPal can recover from the seller’s Account.

What is the process for the Buyer Complaint Policy?
Similar to PayPal Buyer Protection, you must file a Dispute in the PayPal Resolution Center within 45 days of the date you sent the payment. Once you have done so, you should attempt to resolve the Dispute directly with the seller.

What happens if I am unable to resolve the Dispute directly with the seller?
You may escalate the Dispute to a Claim within 20 days of the date you filed the Dispute. PayPal will make a final decision for some - but not all - Claims. You should not escalate a Dispute for Significantly Not as Described (SNAD) to a Claim because PayPal will not make a decision on a SNAD Claim under the PayPal Buyer Complaint Policy.

What if PayPal makes a final decision in my favor?
If PayPal makes a final decision in your favor, we will collect any available funds in the seller’s PayPal balance at that time. However, recovery is not guaranteed and is limited only to the amounts that PayPal can recover from the seller’s Account. Any amounts collected from the seller will be placed in your Account.

Although I use paypal, it's only when it's convenient for me to do so.
I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them! They try and come across as if they're a bank, but they're not regulated in anywhere near the same way... mind you I'd hardly call the genuine banks regulated in any meaningful way either.

Paypal brainwashing is impressive.

They talk about Seller Protection but the only time you need "protection" when taking a payment if if you use Paypal in the first place, as that is the only way a private seller can recieve fake credit card payments / chargebacks etc etc in most cases.

Buyer Protection is worthless off-Ebay. A friend of mind got scammed buying some gear recently as he saw one of those Paypal logos. It was one of those sites that springs up that look professional then disspear. No joy getting close to £800 back.

Its all in the small print..

I had planned to used Kerso, using Paypal. The feedback on this site appears to be good?
