Hi everyone,

I have a little bit of a problem on my hands.

I sold my old camera on eBay and used the PayPal postage service to send it. I selected Royal Mail Special Delivery (1pm).

Now, I dispatched it on Tuesday. I just got an e-mail for the buyer this evening saying that he has not received it - he should have had it on Wed...

So I would like to receive the tracking number. I click on the 'details' link for the postage label it says 'Full online tracking with free online delivery confirmation' but I can't find the number to punch it into the RM website. I just keep going round in circles on the PayPal site.

If you used this service and can help me out it'd be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!!

Did you get a receipt when you handed the package in at the post office? The number would be printed on it, above the destination address details.

I almost used PayPal postage for the first time, today, but backed out because there wasn't a way to buy the Saturday Guarantee my customer wanted. Also because I would've had to hand the package to the postie doing the collection (local office closed on a Friday), which the sorting office said would be OK, but didn't sound right to me.

The package got picked up at my work along with all the other mail.

I've sent half a dozen PayPal SD packages in the past that way and never had any problems or comments from the postie.

According to the PayPal site you can track it on their site but I can't for the life of me find the link or code.

I'm slightly worried because he only had 4 transactions before me and I have no idea if he actually has it or not.

Just checked a package with SD bought via PayPal, and it has the usual silver-grey SD label with the tracking number, and no tracking number on the label printed from PayPal.

Dunno whether posties who collect mail are provided with SD labels, or if the labels are attached (and a record made) as soon as the item arrives at the first sorting office.

You still need to take it to the Post Office so it's scanned in and logged.

This info is at the bottom of your Paypal Postage e-mail.

Its not been sent RMSD if it was just collected.

Thanks for looking and your help.

We have the SD stickers at work for other mail but I figured it wasn't required with the PayPal label.

Looks like I'll need to give RM a call tomorrow and try and sort this out. Worst case, I'll need to refund the guy (whether he has it or not, I don't know) because I made a stupid mistake. :(

Just weird the other ones arrived safely and on time that were sent the same way.

Just re-read the e-mail it does have 'Pop it in a Postbox® at one of the 115,000 Postboxes nationwide' as an option so I'm confused. Surely that's the same as someone picking it up?

Thanks for the info puddleduck...

I'll give RM a phone tomorrow but looks like I've thrown 100 quid away and a camera. Time to get the anti-depressants ready. :(

Lets hope you have an honest buyer, otherwise he'll be getting a freebie courtesy of Paypal :(

Call his local Sorting Office tomorrow and ask to speak to the duty manager. The postie may remember delivering a parcel....

Yeah, I'm certainly going to take it as far as I can. I'll try the sorting office and also the main PayPal/Royal Mail support number tomorrow morning.

I'd assume even if it wasn't sent SD it would still get there or get returned to me.

Called both PayPal and Royal Mail with no success. Looks like the parcel could have been delivered (not signed for) or lost they don't know as there is no tracking number.

I had no choice but to refund the guy and learn from this...

That's the Canon 70-200mm F2.8L lens I want is delayed another month. :(

Have you at least claimed compensation for an unregistered parcel? If it was sent first class - this is a quote from the RM website:

What happens if your mail is lost?
If your mail gets lost, we’ll give you a minimum compensation of 12 First Class stamps. However, if there was something of value in your mail, we'll refund the actual loss, up to maximum value of 100 First Class stamps or up to the market value, whichever is the smaller amount. Please apply for this within 12 months.

What's a first class stamp these days? 35p? So that's £35.00 worth of stamps?

Royal Mail

Let him raise a dispute in Paypal first.

I'm going to assume your buyer is trying on here, as parcels do not disappear - especially as it had your return address on.

If he does do an "item not recieved" then if you suspect he got the item, he is them committing fraud.

In any event, a parcel is not deemed lost until 15 days, so don't even consider refunding until then.

Thanks for the information.

They never mentioned this on the phone, perhaps because they don't know if its lost or has actually been delivered.

It wasn't sent First Class, it was Special Delivery but without the tracking sticker attached.

I'll give them a call on Monday and see if I get anywhere.

I believe special deliver is insured for £500? But I don't understand 'without the tracking sticker'??

There is a little silver sticker that you put on the package that has a barcode (which RM scan at each stage of the delivery) and a 13 tracking number.

I figured this wan't required as the PayPal label has a barcode and stated SD etc. Turns out the silver tracking sticker was in fact required.

According to RM its not classed as SD without that sticker. :bang:
