Is this fair to sellers?
I've not used Ebay for months, and decided I needed to flog a few bits and bobs. Since I last used it, I discovered that paypal *MUST* be an accepted form of payment. Also, I when listing, I got a message saying.
"Due to your limited transaction history (less than 100) Paypal may hold any payment made to you, for up to 21 days. Or until you receive positive feedback"
I've been registered since 2002, and have 100% positive on 52 transactions with no disputes/etc. Ebay even sent me a £10 voucher the other day for being an "excellent Ebayer"
Also, consider the following scenario:
Winning bidder pays me with paypal, I log into my paypal account and the payment is "pending" so I have £0. I'm then expected to send the item on the basis of that pending transaction. I don't actually get any money, until the seller leaves me positive feedback...
Which isn't going to happen, as I'm not going to ship the item until I have access to the cash. So I don't send the item, buyer files a dispute - everything ends in tears and arguments.... Why is this necessary??????
I don't care what anyone says - nobody ships on a cheque which hasn't cleared, nobody ships anything until you have money in your hand.... Why paypal be an exception?
I tried listing the items and putting "I don't accept paypal" and they were removed. I then relisted and offered a 2% discount and postage refund for anyone who pays with direct bank transfer/cash collection/cheque/PO, and it was also removed. So I was left with no option other than to list the items with a preferred payment method, and paypal at the bottom saying "use paypal only if you have to, stuff goes nowhere until I have money in my actual bank account" they didn't delete it this time..
Anyone else been hit by this?
