Paypal - How?

Is this fair to sellers?

I've not used Ebay for months, and decided I needed to flog a few bits and bobs. Since I last used it, I discovered that paypal *MUST* be an accepted form of payment. Also, I when listing, I got a message saying.

"Due to your limited transaction history (less than 100) Paypal may hold any payment made to you, for up to 21 days. Or until you receive positive feedback"

I've been registered since 2002, and have 100% positive on 52 transactions with no disputes/etc. Ebay even sent me a £10 voucher the other day for being an "excellent Ebayer"

Also, consider the following scenario:

Winning bidder pays me with paypal, I log into my paypal account and the payment is "pending" so I have £0. I'm then expected to send the item on the basis of that pending transaction. I don't actually get any money, until the seller leaves me positive feedback...

Which isn't going to happen, as I'm not going to ship the item until I have access to the cash. So I don't send the item, buyer files a dispute - everything ends in tears and arguments.... Why is this necessary??????

I don't care what anyone says - nobody ships on a cheque which hasn't cleared, nobody ships anything until you have money in your hand.... Why paypal be an exception?

I tried listing the items and putting "I don't accept paypal" and they were removed. I then relisted and offered a 2% discount and postage refund for anyone who pays with direct bank transfer/cash collection/cheque/PO, and it was also removed. So I was left with no option other than to list the items with a preferred payment method, and paypal at the bottom saying "use paypal only if you have to, stuff goes nowhere until I have money in my actual bank account" they didn't delete it this time..

Anyone else been hit by this?

Yep, me too. Similar story to yours.... It sucks. Also, I think ebay/paypal fees have increased dramatically. I won't be using them very much in the future...

oh, and paypal wanted me to reverify my bank even though it hasn't changed since the last verification. that sucked too. I also know of at least one other person who has got hit with paypal verification and had to wait 2 weeks, maybe longer, before he could get his money.

The auctions haven't ended yet, i'm just getting stressed out about the thought of my money being "locked away" and me being expected to send the item..

Trouble is Paypal can legally freeze the money for no reason as they're technically not a bank, and not covered by Banking regulations - they're a deposit broker...... I just hope to god more people start using the new instant bank transfer system, as its instant on up to £10k and your covered by the banks security, as its an A-B transaction with no middleman.. to hell with paypal.. :bang:

I changed my paypal email in my listing to a non existant one so it was impossible for anyone to actually pay me... I put that I prefer not to use paypal for this transaction.... I got a few questions about the item and told them no paypal..

It worked and sold a lens bank transfer.. had anyone insisted on paypal at least they couldnt say they had paid already because my side wouldnt have been able to accept it... I 100% wouldnt use paypal for large amounts of money.. only pic sales from my website

hehe.. been on there quite a bit recently, I love the way its in the top 10 search results when you type "paypal" into google.

I've been trawling the Ebay forums, and noticed that my scenario has played out countless times, with no decent resolution for either the buyer or seller. I'm glad to read that i'm not the only one with common sense - many other people are refusing to ship before cleared payment,
