I bought an Iphone off ebay and the guy sent me an email saying...

"Dear eBay member.it has recently come to my attention that my son has been trying to sell his iPhone via eBay. This was without my consent and strictly not allowed. Please reverse any payment made for this item and accept my sincere apologies."

Sounds like rubbish to me, but can I request my money back via paypal and also, will I get it all back or will I loose out on paypal fees?

The seller should be able to give a full refund via paypal.

Just put a claim in to PayPal for goods not received. They will take the payment from his account.

well, I got their details from ebay and gave them a call, turns out the number if for a 70something year old couple who have no clue what ebay is.

Ive been done then.

can I get details from their email then sent me, like name and address?

The paypal account you payed to should have contact details.

I got done over a couple of years ago. Paypal would only refund up to a maximum of £100 I think it was at the time. The Nintendo Wii I bought cost more than twice that. They couldn't reclaim the money from the sellers account because they'd already cleared it out.

Transpires there was about 10 of us done by the same seller, for various electronic goods. Reported to the police and they did the square root of eff all. They got away scot free.

put a claim in with ebay and paypal.

hmm, how can i find that out?

Sorry m8, I'm wrong about that. I was sure you could see the details of people you've paid as well as those who have paid you.

the seller can reverse all the charges...

paypal can reverse everything but why only £100...definitely chase this with avengence...

please inform ebay they they are a scammer if you havent already, at least it will get their account (albeit one of several no doubt) closed down.

if paypal wont refund all of it, did you pay with a credit card? if so speak to them, they normally have a internet protection policy..

paypal should refund you the whole amount, minus postage & it won't matter if the seller doesn't have the funds in their paypal account, it'll take it to minus & then the seller will have to repay it.

Any chance of a username so we can block them in case any of us get done in the future?

Well, here's a lesson in how not to get scammed. It was blindingly obvious you were going to get ripped off before you even placed a bid.

The seller 'jamsey6969' has only one feedback, a glowingly positive one from a user called '19jimmyjam69'.

No point posting any of that other information as it's all clearly false, and someone from Ashford who is actually James Carpenter probably has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Lesson :

IF YOU BUY ON EBAY, CHECK THE SELLER'S FEEDBACK!

Oh, and he had two auctions on the go....both of them with the same story :

I have a 1 week old iphone 3G for sale with 8GB of memory. I brought this last week without really thinking about it and on hind sight I cant really afford to keep it (in other words the Mrs is going mad at me!)

hi , when you pay for something on ebay using paypal you are automatically covered by paypal , which means if you dont receive item you open a dispute and then if the seller doesnt refund you ,the dispute then turns into a claim and if the buyers doesnt have proof he has posted item (must have parcel number for tracing) paypal will eventually refund you .....please see the following taken from paypal site .also if you log into your paypal account and follow the "contact us"link you will get the phone number and also a pin number which is to make paypal secure when you call them .also you should keep all the emails that the seller sends you(including the header) which enables paypal to confirm that the email you received is from the seller ..good luck , i am sure you will get a refund ,after all unless they have proof (trackable like a recorded delivery reference number) that item is posted you will get a refund , best thing to do is call them and explain to them and open a dispute, also if you dont have any info about the seller you can get there phone number from ebay by clicking the "Advanced search" (next to normal search button) link on the main ebay page at the top and when you click that on the new page on the bottom left there is a section called "members" the second line down is
"Find contact information" if you click on this it opens up a new page and all you do is type in item number and sellers ebay id and click continue and you will receive a email with the sellers name and also their phone number .....
please let me know how you get on.

I agree with others about checking a feedback. But a practical advice, if you have funded your PayPal account with a credit card or direct debit, don't go with PayPal claims - it will take ages. Phone your bank (for direct debit) or your credit card provider and report a fraudulent transaction immediately (the sooner you do it the faster they will reverse the payment). PayPal will be mad about it but who cares - they do take too long for this.

Happened to me once and to my friend as well - Egg was happy to help and reversed the payment on my card...

I was scammed by someone who had 150 positive feedbacks.
Know the feeling. Bought a laptop for the car (data-logging, etc) about 4 or 5 years ago. The seller had a large and superb feedback score. The laptop arrived, followed a day later by an email from a constable at the Met.

Turned out the seller was a major international fence who they arrested shortly after my laptop was sent.

I'm sure you have.....common way of extracting money from people is 'obtaining' trustworthy ebay accounts with good feedback and 'selling' high value items, which of course, never arrive.

The point is though, that if the seller only has 1 feedback and it's from a buyer with a similar name, you can be 100% sure it is a scammer :)
