Hi

I have just agreed a sale of some of my kit in the for sale forum. This is my first time so I wonder what the normal procedure is.

Mainly, what payment type is best to accept?
Is dispatch made after payment recieved and cleared normally?

I did read through the classifieds guidelines sticky but couldnt see anything.

Mods, feel free to move if I am in the wrong forum

Many thanks.

Hi Keith

Payment wise either of the following are a norm on here

Cash on collection
Bank Transfer (BT)
Paypal / Paypal Gift

Yes, as soon as money is received you dispatch off

Keep the thread updated and I also PM the person to keep them upto speed as well.

When goods received and everyone is happy, normally iTrader feedback is left.

Hope this is of some help

if you wish you can accept postal orders (if they still exist) or cheque but let any potential buyers know that you won't release goods until payment has cleared in full

Is it safe to give out sort codes and bank account number so that people can pay electronically?

I am paying my solicitor (moving house) some fees in this way, just wondering.

It's as safe as writing someone a cheque, as those also have your account number and sort code on them.

The account code and sort number can be used to make a direct debit agreement (some charities for example accept electronic "signups" without requiring a paper signature) but if it was not you the completed the DD mandate then your bank will refund you the money and any charges you might have incurred under the direct debit agreement.

I've never had a problem with it, but if you are concerned then get a separate account for online trading!

Keith just completed my first trade as a purchaser and paid by BACS and couldn't have been more happier.

Much safer than using ebay, far too many crooks on their now.

Hope the trade runs smoothly

i always ask for payment into my Bank by BT - usually happens within 2 hours
i then leave feedback at THIS point as contractually the buyer has done his ''bit''

high value items are then sent RMSD
the tracking number is sent to the buyer in a PM
once received in good order, i expect to be advised
I also ''expect'' to receive feedback from the buyer
after which the thread should be archived

I send everything recorded del.. here, ebay anywhere.. nobody can say they didnt get it then ...

Cheers all

BACS/BT is the same thing I am assuming? (Bank transfer) I'll probably go that way then.

What is RMSD?

How is a thread archived?

Thanks

BACS = Bank Transfer = FasterPay

Between most banks this method of transfer is immediate. Some banks advise that it takes up to two hours. Some banks still take time to credit a BT to your account. If your's does this then it is time to change banks.

RMSD = Royal Mail Special Delivery. This is guaranteed delivery by either 0900 hrs or 1300 hrs next business day. More expensive than Recorded Signed For. Whichever service you use, check the compensation levels and pay extra if required. Always check your postage options before listing items for sale. You may, for example, include the cost of Recorded Signed For in your asking price but offer RMSD if requested but with the buyer paying the extra.

Recorded Signed For First Class is NOT a guaranteed next day service as some people think. In my experience, Recorded Signed For actually delays delivery.

The seller has the contract with the postal/courier company. NOT the recipient. Any claims can only be initiated by the sender. Remember, if something breaks in transit it will be because its been inadequately packaged - and you will have a fight to get any compensation.

Archiving a thread.
Archive your thread when done : When a deal is complete, the thread starter must archive their thread by clicking 'Thread Tools > Archive Thread'. Old threads will be archived automatically after some time has elapsed. If you mistakenly archive a thread too early, or wish for a thread to be brought 'live' again, please click the report ()icon on the first post.

and please read this ;)

Handing over your Sort Code and Account number. Do it! Just do it! There are people on the internets who will give out scare stories about how it is (theoretically) possible to set up a direct debit using this information to extract funds from your account. This is extremely rare and fraudulent and the DDR scheme is guaranteed to cover you for such fraudulent activity. Bank Transfer is not just the quickest method of payment but also the safest. If you believe everything the scaremongers will tell you on the Internet, you may as well just stay in bed. Which is probably where they live their lives.

Thanks 2blue-ted-john

I did read through the sticky after I got told off after my first post.

BACS it is then.

Cheers
