Paying using PayPal on Gumtree

Hello

Im looking at buying a lens on gumtree and its £300-£400.

If I pay buy paypal and the item doesn't get received will I be able to get my money back?

I did read on moneysavingexpert that I should be as long as I don't gift the money.

Can you not go and check it out with cash?

In theory so long as it is done as a payment for goods then you should be covered, but I personally wouldn't use it for a Gumtree purchase.

Maybe its just me but your a brave man buying a lens by post on Gumtree, For that money and using Gumtree I'd want to personally see the goods first, On TP Classified at least most sellers have got a trading profile and recommendations from buyers (other TP members) you don't get that on gumtree.

I think if you select paying for goods/ services you get some coverage from paypal and also if they send you a paypal invoice. I'm sure it's against gumtree terms & conditions though so you'd get no help from them if there was a problem.

I echo what others have said though. Is it worth the risk?

Lots of dodgy goings on at Gumtree. Personally I wouldn't buy via them unless it was a local advert and you could deal face to face.
