Question why do so many people pay over the odds for there equipment

an example my brother bought brand new a Canon 100>400mm zoom kept it one year and sold it for £75 more than he paid for it
and if the buyer had looked into it he would of got the same lens brand new with full warranty for £90 less than he paid for the 2nd hand one???

and I see time after time people paying way over the odds for camera equipment

answers on a postcard please

Because there will always be stupid people? I've no idea really but you only need to look at a well known auction site (other sites are available) to see the phenomena on a regular basis.

The canon 55-250 is a good example on this well known auction site some go for £120+ when you can get them brand new for this!!

Some people fixate on things for no good reason. I've certainly sold a few items at auction that fetched a ridiculous price.

I was in half a mind to email them telling them to get it new for less, but then again...

^^^^^ that
People can't be bothered to research, they just want something and buy it.

I need to know which site this is, when I sold my d90 and 70-300 I had to settle for 40% off list.

Just good old ebay. No idea why certain items go ballistic. My all time record was 3 times more for a dead Playstation than any other that sold that month.

I tend to go for tons of photos and brutal honesty. It usually does the job.

I sold an old sat nav last week, no box, just the unit and cables. It was 2 years old or so and had a few marks here and there, plus the maps were 1 year old. It sold for £85.

Whilst looking on the tomtom website, I found the same model, refurbed with the latest maps and a years free live services for £65 posted!

As someone said, they don't do any research and just assume they are getting a bargain just because they out bid everybody else. ( the spell checker wouldn't pick this up, that is if it was used, but in one post there was a "there" when it should have been a "their, and a later one where it was the other way round) Sorry about that, it's just one of those silly little things that I notice. I am waiting now for someone to pick me up, lol
Seriously, I think this proves the point that this is the best place to buy your gear, though perhaps not necessarily the best place to sell, as most members know what equipment is worth and are unlikely to pay over the odds.

It is amazing how people are on the internet already using eBay but too stupid/lazy to take 5 seconds to search the item out on Google to find the cheapest price.

Don't knock it, I have sold 100's of items...

I hope they do...I've got loads to sell!

I just sold my used canon 50mm f/1.8 for £76 + £5.50 postage!
You can buy them brand new with warranty for £75
