Yes
the simple answer is no unless you buy through e bay and basically e bay only
just spoke to pay pal im not happy with a purchase of a paintball gun

i questioned them to why they closed the dispute down they said that i have no protection as it was not bought from e bay everythign except ebay is not covered

so here is your warning pay pal gift is just as much cover as pay pal with 4 percent on so why are they offering protection

What did you expect from an eBay company?

What you should do with paypal is if it is non-eBay, use your credit card as funding source. Then your credit card will be your cover.

+1 , classifieds like on here are all about trust , things go wrong but thankfully rarely as far as i know :)

Paypal is a con! The provide no protection to sellers thru ebay at all. I sold a phone in mint condition. After 6 weeks he disputed saying it was not as described (surely you would do that after a few days), plus he had left loads of similar feedback for others saying not as described (no-one is that unlucky?). He sent the phone back minus some of the bit like charger, manual and have a feeling it was a different phone too, although stupidly didnt make a note of serial beforehand so have no proof.

Am soooo tempted to buy a nice £1k lens of ebay and then do the same and send back a cheapo £100 lens !!!!

I'm sick to the back teeth with paypal charges.
It really annoys me that Paypal take pleasure in taking their cut before letting you transfer the funds to a bank account when making a sale on ebay.
I've also stopped using paypal for the stuff I sell here because with most banks, the payments come through quicker.
I have enough positive feedback here to prove I am 100% honest and if a potential buyer doesn't want to use bank transfer, I am happy to wait for the next person.

I had the same problem a few months ago and posted this little warning

I have only used paypal in buying from ebay. I have had two occasions to dispute my purchases and on both occasions paypal have come up trumps and refunded me my money. I have no complaints with them at all. They have certainly given me protection.

Thought you had some comeback outside Ebay if buying Goods, but not if the "Gift" option is used

Remember making a claim admittedly it was a while back and the seller refunded me in the end

Absolutely not I am afraid and that's straight from the horses gob.
( well paypal, same thing I guess )

pay pal said basically if you buy outside e bay we can not do anything for you
and that was a pay pal rep on the phone
i could belive it

Oh the irony in the fact that paypal push sellers on their website who accept payment by paypal.
'Buy from them but we won't get involved if there is a problem'.

I had two emails from them, that said the same thing.
I couldn't believe it either!

That is, after the first email I complained about paypoop

and guess where that complaint email goes?
yep you guessed it!

Its very annoying also that eBay make you use paypal.
Sell on eBay and you HAVE to use paypal now.

That's correct, I went to open an Ebay account recently and was told I HAD to provide my telephone number and use Paypal - even though there charges are pretty hefty.

It's still a mystery to me how a transaction, which you think it complete, can be reversed by them months after the fact.

Yep I agree they are now a law unto themselves
