Great video article in the Guardian about Paul Trevor's photos of kids on the streets of Liverpool in the 70s. Some very evocative images that you almost certainly would not be able to capture today.

I love the one with the hosepipe, I wonder if it was in the '76 drought?

Kids just don`t get that freedom anymore. I know every one worries about paedos etc but are there any more now than back then?

in the garden yesterday with my 13 year old and using a knife to cut some string, remembered a game we used to play as kids "split the kipper".
2 kids stand facing each other with legs astride and you threw a knife to stick in the grass between other kids legs. Can`t remember how the game was won.
Daughter was horrified when I told her, said how dangerous etc.

We imaginativly called it knifey and as i remember the one that had the knife thrown at their foot had to put their foot where the knife landed. The object was to be the one not to fall over first. Great memories! And no health and safety!
