Paul Graham - The Whiteness of the Whale

Graham is a legend.

Not really any artyboll**s in there... just a guy talking about his work. All makes sense.

I like listening to artists talking about their thought processes. It's far more interesting and helpful than hearing them talk about techniques.

I fall asleep when photographers talk about technical stuff to be honest. Does anyone care how they did stuff technically? Once you've been doing this a while you can see immediately how someone shot something, so it begins to feel like you're patiently listening to an earnest 6 year old while they explain to you why the sky is blue because they've just found out themselves.

It's always the why that's interesting... never the how. How is boring.

Very, very interesting. Hearing a photographer talk about their work in depth provides so much more context. Certainly in this instance it helped me make sense of the work. It was also interesting to see the unconventional way the exhibition had been displayed and hoped the viewer make sense of the work.
