Has anyone used the copy camera grips available from our far eastern friends at less than half the Canon/Nikon price? Are they any good and do they work as the originals grips? Yep I have been thinking a saving of £70 sounds good but is it just false economy to go that route?

I got one for a 400D here.

Its a genuine Canon BG-E3 model.

Thanks, I have an original for the 350d and was looking at one for the 40d. The canon ones are excellent so I got to wondering how different the pattern jobbies preformed as they are so cheap compared to canons.

I know that some can cause the dreaded "ERROR" problems sometimes, and also some tell you that the battery has run out, even though it has 2 batteries in it. In both cases you have to turn the camera off and remove the grip, replace and turn on again.
Dean:)

Thanks Dean, it's just that, that I was thinking might be the problems with these. I haven't had any problems with the genuine ones.

I've got pattern grips on both my 30D's and they are just great Alby ;) Less than half the price of canon oe and I've never had a problem with either of them. These are the ones I've got http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=18919 ....I belive they will also fit the 40D. If I can talk she who must be obeyed into spending a cold day at Marwell next week I'll let you have a close look at one....better still fit one to your 40 and have a play for the day ;)

I got got a Phottix grip for my 350d for crimbo, so far so good, everything works fine and it has a nice look and feel to it.
