Patrick's 52 for 2011 - Week 31 "Wind"

Hiya Patrick, good see you back, I'm sure you will catch up. I really like your moderation photo, very well improvised, great composition, excellent.
And for your empty, I agree with Dawn, might well make a great photo converted in black and white.

Hiya,

If you can send them as attachments to dawnrodd@hotmail.com that would be great.

Let's see if what you had in mind is what I have in mind for a fantastic image too :D

Thanks

Dawn :)
Hi Dawn for some reason the email keeps bouncing back as "undeliverable". It might because the raw files are too big.

I might have a go at it myself sometime.

Hi Michael, thanks for your comments. I agree with you and Dawn that the "Empty" pic is a bit weak, that'll teach me to rush things...

I'm off on a holiday today, so my next few pics will be jokers unless I can squeeze holiday pics into the theme:)

Hiya Patrick,

Thanks for trying to email the pics, it is probably due to the size of the files. No problems, I got your pics from your flickr (hope you don't mind) and did a quick triptych to show you the sort of idea I had for the photos:

Patrick's Empty by crystal_singer (drodd), on Flickr[/IMG]

This is just a quick throw together to give the idea.

Have a fantastic holiday and safe journey. We will catch up with you on your return - and look forward to seeing some of your holiday shots.

Take care

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Dawn, yes that's loads better. It now looks like it all hangs together as a tryptych. The mono works much better as well. Well done, and thanks for taking the time.

All the best, Patrick

Hiya Patrick,

No probs, glad you like it and have an idea now of what I thought when I saw your photos.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Had fun doing this, but amazingly tricky getting the focus and catchlights right on a self portrait.
Anyway it's supposed to be an open door within open eyes. Did a little PP, but the reflections are real.

Two shots to choose from based on some crit from Mark

Thanks for the crit to my previous pics and more advice/crit always welcome.

BTW in case you are wondering my eyes really are different colours:shrug:

patrick..i hadn't seen your images for open..when i did my object.. but i can relate to getting in focus... but looks like you did it in day light?.. or at least good lighting. i chose mono simply because mine was shot in front of a lamp and i could bearly see the laptop to focus the camera on my eye .. :D ..

Back from holiday so, yes you guessed it... you get to see my holiday snaps.

Here's couple of "objects" to you start with

Can't think of anything to fit the theme "wrong" so playing a joker.
A pic from Yosemite (Ansel Adams eat your heart out )

...and not a great pic, but ask yourself if it is "wrong" to jump off a 10 foot high rock into an unknown depth of snow. Please note no teenagers were harmed in the making of this image.

Here's my reshoot of "empty". Also these Giant Sequoias are a bit of a paradox as they live for thousands of years and (depending on how you chose to measure it) are among the largest living things of the planet. Yet they survive naturally occurring forest fires every 20 years or so. So some of the the older specimens will have lived through hundreds of fires.

Also they are just plain amazing to behold.

Nice low angle and lead in line matey. I even like the lens flare you have going on.. It works imho as you have the sun in the image top right...

Regards Dave:thumbs:

Thanks Dave. I had a couple of similar shots without the lens flare, but decided to keep it in as I feel it adds to the feeling of bright sunshine and heat.

Some great snaps here mate. I did a road-trip to those parts a few years ago and wish I had the camera gear and (basic) know-how I have now. Well done on trying to catch up too - I'm always falling behind....

Hiya Patrick,

Glad to hear you have had a great holiday. I have missed you here on Photo52.

Wow you have posted some fantastic shots here, but I have to say Week 17 and the first of Week 15 take the cake for me.

I love the light flair on the last ... beautiful colours!

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Patrick, that is a nice image. I like the lowangle you have photographed it at, it adds a nice impact to the pic, and the lens flare works well with the image.

Thanks Michael, I've been playing around a lot recently with low angle and a wide-angle lens - I really like the change of perspective from the 50mm I use for most of my photography.

Hi Jonathan, yes, California is an amazing place - incredible diversity and so BIG. I only took one lens and and no tripod or filters as this was a family holiday, but I'd love to go back with all the kit and just spend time on photography.

Hi Dawn, thanks - I have missed the 52 community too. Glad you like the week 15 pic - it's one of my favourite, although I so wish I'd had a polarising filter...

Hope your camp went well. Will we see some pics from it?

I agree

Thanks Tina. Enjoying your 52 too

<snip> Hi Dawn, ...... I so wish I'd had a polarising filter... Hope your camp went well. Will we see some pics from it?<snip>

Hiya Patrick,

I am going to look at getting a polarising filter and perhaps a set of filters for my camping trips to Scotland and Cornwall later this year. I think I will need them.

Thanks, I had a great time camping and will post some photos soon.

Now to think of what to do for the new theme :D

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Patrick, sorry i haven't dropped by for a while (but that is partly your fault for not keeping you progress up to date on the spreadsheet) lol.
Great holiday snaps and good that you could incorporate some into the themes. I love Yosemite, wow - it looks so surreal.
As for tropical- i can only echo what has been said already, great angle and the lens flair really gives an easyrider feel to it. It really adds heat and a baron feel. Brill !!!

Hi Dawn, you'll have a great time photographing in Scotland and Cornwall. I really wish I'd had my tripod and filter (polariser and ND grads) on my road trip.

Hi Martin , thanks for your comments. Yosemite and Death Valley were the real highlights for me.

The power of Nature to survive even in the harshest conditions. This is Death Valley one of the hottest and dryest places on Earth. The white stuff in the background is pure salt.

Fabulous Patrick. What a great image. With landscapes and contrasts like that who needs selective colouring in pp. Marvellous shot , well spotted

Hiya Patrick,

Oh wow! your Power shot defo oozes power, what a fantastic photo!

Looks like you have had an amazing journey, and so glad you can share some of your photos with us.

When I was at school in South Africa, we did a study on the Death Valley, so I can really appreciate this photo. My only incy tincy niggle is about the black dot in the sky, just off centre, might be a bird? Otherwise a great shot .... did you enquire what the plant is?

Cheers

Dawn :)

I have to disagree with Mat and Dawn......well, no I don't!

Great catch and it really does the theme justice. Nice low perspective.

I even noticed the V for Victory in tow large flowers...well spotted...

Cheers and I suspect that's one hell of a place to photograph.

Harsh lighting conditions, difficult land, great photo :-)
There is a black spot on the sky above the horizon, I might be tempted to clone out, and maybe shift the foreground plant very very slightly left or right, just to move it off the center line, but they are very minor comments. A great shot of nature "finding her way"

Hi Patrick, that is a stunning image!

Hi Patrick

Your image for Power is stunning , bang on theme & well shot ,another that would look good framed me thinks

Hi people, many thanks for taking the time to comment - it's very much appreciated. I'd love to go back to do just photography, but that will be a long way in the future.
I can see what people are saying about the black dot - I'm hoping that was dust on the lens and not on the sensor. Will check it out later.

Love the joker shot, it looks mystical.

Not sure about the paradox shot being a paradox, but then again, I don't think I 100% understand what makes a paradox! As for the image though, the tree is amazing, not to mention what it's lived through.

It looks a great place to take a camera.

Tropical you're right, not very tropical, but a nice shot.

Power is good too, the black spot needs to go though.

Hiya Patrick

Great idea for the theme, although I'm not sure about the photo. I think it would have looked better if less exposed and saturated  it is very green (even the trunk looks greenish to me).

Sorry if that all sounds negative, not intended, just my honest opinion.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi, Patrick, now I like this one. The perspective works for me although the sky is a little over exposed and the green, with the backlit, are very bright. Lovely greens though.

Cheers.

great movement and colour on the trio pic, nicely done

both awesome pics from death valley, and that Sequoia tree is crazy

Patrick... Love your death valley shots... hope to see the rest of your travel shots soon... will you post them here or on flickr or something? I love travel photography so interested to see anyones! One of the best ways to learn and understand the world!

I like the divided shot... Maybe it would be better PP'd in B+W and really boost the sharpness and contrast... would then be a bit like an old infra red film image!

Ok, ok, I give in... Here's one with a more natural look.
I still like my first one, but my beloved thinks you lot are right. I guess I'm in a minority of one here

Seriously, many thanks all for taking the time to comment

Hiya Patrick,

Wow .... I can take the DG's off now

Now .... this is stunning .... it!

The detail you have caught in the leaves is beautiful, not to mention the blue sky and the shimmer of sunshine.

It feels like am lying under the tree gazing up at the sky and leaves.

The image has a very romantic feel to it

You see, your OH is always right :D .... and glad you have listened your fellower 52'er too :p

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)
