Does anyone else think that if our MPs were living in the real world such as us, they would bring in better sentences to all the criminals we have? Also the Government want people to work well build some more prisons so they can employ out of work builders and of course employ prison staff when they are built. Yesterday I read a criminal in the USA (a continuing reoffender) had stolen some corn flakes so he was given 15 years jail, now thats what I call a sentence!

Whilst the "do-good" brigade turn this country into a laffing stock, the "do-bad" brigade enjoy easy pickings.
The girl who defrauded/embezelled our small company out of £18K (her second simillar offence in less than 5 years) got a 15 month sentence in April.
She was spotted on a bus last week laughing with her mother so obviously out of prison. The local press reported that day that she will only have to pay back £1 of the money she stole because of some crazy legal position.
It aint gonna change, only get worse, so buckle in for the ride... I can see mutiny on the streets within 10 years unless someone with a backbone drags this country back to the moral level it was 50 years ago.

"Three strikes and you are out" love it, wished they would build more prisons and do that here, but no we go the opposite way and look for ways to keep them out of prision :bang::bang::bang:

Not necessarily. I don't suppose anyone wants to live next to a prison - whether they support more custodial sentences or not - and there are people who don't want Donald Trump's new golf development or a wind farm next door either. This doesn't seem to make any difference to the authorities in charge of planning permission though.
There are a lot of people in this country who support capital punishment and harsher sentences, particularly for serious crimes. Their views are debateable, and this probably isn't the place to discuss them, but they feel justifiably angry when they're simply ignored. Announcing that certain criminals will, in due course, be released and offered new identities and protection at the taxpayer's expense just adds to the sense of unreality.

That question to the DPP would attract the answer, "Not in the public interest".
It wouldn't even get off the ground. An uncorroborated account of something of no importance, that might, or might not, have happened in the past; no complainant and no evidence. The writer would just say he/she made it up to add a bit of spice to the book anyway.

+1, they take the stance that harsh punishments cause further offences. Rather than the stance that harsh punishments prevent offence.
sentences are totally unrealistic, recently a gun was found in a security box and had been brought from the usa illegally but left in the box and never taken out, the owner got 3 years, if he had killed someone with that gun he may have easily got 3 years too, does it make any sense? The punishments dont seem to fit the crime and no one seems to care or try and do anything about it. I remember Labour coming to power and one of their main aims was to try and sort out the soaring crime rate under the Tories, they can say the figures have been reduced but its more like people have so little faith in the justice system they just dont report the crime, its still there as bad as ever no matter what they try and say.
