Passport office question

I have a question (potentially in the wrong place - so sorry for that!)

I'm renewing my passport next week and have to go into the passport office in London to pick it up. However, I know there will be a lot of security about etc, and I will have my big DSLR with me (4-hour wait in London, not missing that opportunity!!!)

Have any of you been into the office and experienced any problems with having a camera on you? If so, what would you suggest???

Good old blue and white stripes may not be up to the scanning devices I have been pre-warned about! I'm thinking I may have to put my trust in the security men and surrender my camera until I leave???
