passport help

I have just check my passport and it runs out in april I am flying out to japan the 1st of feb but someone has said it need to be valid for six months if this is right I need to get my skates on, does anyone know for FACT the right answer.

I did contact the japanese embassy and they said no you dont, but then someone today said you did, british passport was unsure hence asking on here. I have decided to go to newport next week and get it fast tracked. £94:bang:

Looks like they may be 3 months, since the entry stamp is good for 90 days, I reckon you must have at least that on your passport.

most places I've been to won't issue a visa unless there's at least 6 months left on the passport
