When people get their pics printed for clients at somewhere like Photobox... how do they deliver direct from photobox.. or even have photobox shopping carts on their sites?

The client will see that a shot you are charging £15 for is in fact 30p to print!!

Even if it is ordered privately and SENT straight to the client which I have often wanted to do..............the bill is inside so they will see how much you paid.

I cant even use the photobox packaging as they can look on their website and see the prices so I have to wrap everything up separately again.

Is this what you all do? Or am I being silly?

agree with you have to take out and frame or buy a mount and put it into the mount plastic packaging.

not a good idea to let sustomer see your percent mark up.

they dont realise cost of camera and time etc.

agree this is what i tend to do.

As I have my own gallery with integrated PayPal there is no automation of printing so I am responsible for ordering the prints myself. I personally use Loxley Colour for all my sales phots (OK it's 2x the price of photobox but it always provide consistency which photobox doesn't IMO). Loxley delivers in solid clean card packaging and the photos inside are well protected inside bags with the larger ones with card backing. If you order large card mounted prints they even get wrapped in foam wrapping and then wrapped in bubble wrap to protect them.

They offer you the option to send to a different address from the billing address (e.g. direct to the client) and that gets sent with a delivery note the invoice appears in the post to the billing address separately.

Personally I get the photos sent to me so I can check them before they get sent to the client I then reuse the packaging Loxley uses to send to me (they use strapping to seal the boxes so I can seal with tape) and it looks clean and tidy.

I never get them sent direct as I want to check that the prints are okay and for the reasons stated above.

It's something I've always done as part of my QC.

if you get them sent to you then you are paying for postage twice though

same here

that's why you charge postage on top of the print, makes it at least cost neutral :)

Yes, but if you are selling at industry rates even with 2x postage you costs are still well under 1/4th of what you are selling for, and that's using a professional print house. Remember you are selling your art and your skills and abilities to capture the image.

Personally I don't charge postage on top I include it in my prices (plus if they order more than one I tend to gain a litle more)

agree

also agree with hacker i have them sent to me for qc

thing is " example tesco pay 80p for petrol yet they charge you 1.20p

you know it but pay it.."

you know what i mean they are paying for what you have done more than where you got it printed..

md:thumbs:

lets get real - a lot of people are savvy they know that if you charge £5 /£10 /£20 for a 6x4 that it does not cost that much to print.

i used to get all the prints from photobox sent direct to us and then resent - i don't bother any more - i do a spot check on quality, every month and when photobox were having a few problems we had a few prints sent here just to test - they seem to be getting their act together, although their website is still slow - but better during the day.

we have done over £1000 worth of sales in just 3 weeks in June - all through photobox and in the 2+ years of using them we have yet to have a single complaint for quality.

photobox has always printed a bit dark, we have a monitor set up to suit so it is not a problem - we just adjust for that printer (as you would for any other printer)

photobox do not normally send the prices of the prints to customers, if the address is different to the account holder.

we would never send a photo without correcting and cropping in a way that is complementary to the original photo so we would never allow our customers to order via an automated system - so no we would not use a photobox (or any other ) automated system)

however

if i was putting together a wedding album, or another expensive large print / canvas i would always quality check the print, and use other suppliers

^^^ Interesting - I only tried Photobox once and binned the lot on arrival as the quality was rubbish

To be fair though, some were seriously bent and they did reprint quickly at no extra charge

When they arrived they were straight, and also went straight in the bin

Total garbage was my opinion and I haven't used them since

Perhaps they were having an 'off' week when I used them ???

i just use jalbum software for the client to buy the prints through (each identified via a unique number to avoid confusion when getting prints ordered!), then just use foto.com which is dirt cheap and good quality, sent to me, then just send to the client after i do a quality check, etc. wrapped inside acid-free tissue paper within a charming little branded box with my name on it :)!

Same here ... got recently couple of orders from them for the clients and big prints were bent while couple of small one were scratched ... not the best quality service IMHO

where did you get the branded box from hottest2??

 lol, im a bit of a stationary freak, i like lots of tasteful branded goodies (paper, envelopes, boxes, tissue paper, stickers, etc.), this batch of boxes i did myself just using a custom rubber stamp with business name on it, applied on the ribbed presentation boxes,...had to come up with a quick option! but have also used foldabox.co.uk which are great.

I'd alsways want to check photo quality before delivering to a client personally, so don't mind that Photo Box dont have a facility to send and bill to different addresses.
