Last minute thought as I prep my gear for this afternoons party shoot.

Even though the party organiser has obtained permission from the parents of the child who's party it is for me to take photographs and cover the event, I don't have permission from any other parent so to do.

So, here's what I am planning to do.

First, when she/he arrives - I also get signed permission from the parents of the birthday girl to take pics at the event. I take pics, and portraits - then at the end when parents come to pick them all up - I inform all parents of the photographs, ask them if they want me to delete them immediately, if not - then I inform them where they will be password protected, and if they want prints, how to obtain them.

Does that sound sensible...?

sounds reasonable to me, surely they can't object to that.

good luck with it

That's got to be tricky if some parents do not want their kids photographed. How would you isolate the kids that do want to be photographed from the ones that do not unless you are just taking individual portraits?

Are you planning to do anything with the shots other than sell them to the parents? If not I wouldn't bother with getting signed permission. Just print out some sheets with the details of the online gallery with the login details and give one to each parent as they arrive. If anyone has objections to your taking photos they'll tell you at that point.

While your idea is valid, the practical aspects are perhaps not...

To know at the end of the party which kid NOT to photograph means you'd need to photograph each child with a sheet of paper with their name on to identify them for deletion later; and of course by the time you know who you can't photograph - you've already done it! Catch 22?

Then you'll discover that sweet babe is on just about every pic somewhere anyway, which could then ruin the set for the child whose birthday it is:'(

Every parent would expect some photos to be taken at a kid's party, that they could be printed and even be hosted on the net by/for the birthday child, the difference is only that yours should be better quality - so I go with pxl8 on this one:thumbs:

If you have any, hand out business cards and tell them where they can see the shots - I wouldn't suggest they can buy them as that'd sound like a 'pitch' to make money from their kids at what is an inappropriate time perhaps:nono: They will figure out they can buy them and contact you later should they so wish

If the results are great - host details of you as a 'Party Photographer', if not:gag:, or you hated doing it:thumbsdown: - don't tell anyone you did it!!!:shake:

Have fun

The parents of the child who's party it is has given permission for photographs to be taken. So, I am able to take the candids and 'party photographs'. I have also been asked to take my portable studio setup with me as an opportunity for portrait shots. If any parent doesn't want their child having portrait shots, then I can show them on the camera at the end of the session and simply delete.

Nope - only to sell to parents. Will have the private password protected gallery set up for them.

I do have business cards Dave, and will be handing these out to the parents - with the password to the protected gallery hand-written on back the card.

I'll let you know if I am to tout myself as a party tog or not sometime later today :):) ...
