Just got myself a new laptop and it has a Seagate SSHD 1TB Hybrid hard drive in a single partition and I would like to partition it to a C Drive /D Drive before I start installing my programmes and copying stuff over from my old laptop.

Asking the best/easiest way to do this and what software would I require.

Still running windows 7

...... I would like to partition it to a C Drive /D Drive before I start installing my programmes and copying stuff over from my old laptop.

As Stewart says, Windows 7's Disk Management will do it.
(Start>Control Panel>Admin Tools>Computer Management>click Disk Management in left pane & wait for disks to show up in centre pane).

The first step is to shrink C: drive to create an unallocated space (which will become D: drive in the second step). Here's how to shrink C: drive - LINK . I'd shrink it to 250GB (which is enough for Windows and programmes) and leave the rest as unallocated space.

The second step is to turn the unallocated space into D: drive - follow link in post 2.
