Does anyone know what this is in my double gazed pane? There's one on either side on the bottom edge.

My first thought was some sort of security pins that go into the frame but I'm struggling to find any info. Thanks.

Our Anglia ones have two similar'ish 'pins' and AFAIK they are involved in the process of when they purge the enclosed space and replace the atmospheric air with nitrogen(?... I stand to be corrected as to what the purging process involves)......hence the expression that the DG unit is blown when you see any with internal condensation.

Ah could it be the Argon gas thing?

They wont be pins, you can remove the entire double glazed unit and it will have no protusions around the outside edge. The glazing just rests on the frame often with a spacer/packer and the beading holds it in place.
They are as gman says

They are where the Argon was filled when they were made. One was for injection of the gas, the other was to let air out and monitor the panel being full.

This is my worry, this window is externally beaded. I'm sure I read something about security pins or something which can be used and also special bonding tape or something. But on both counts I've no idea if either were used.

I supposed the one disadvantage of internal beading is that you could kick the window in? But that would be noisy compared to simply prying off some external beading.

To be honest i would also look at getting those DGUs replaced , they are really old and i suspect no where near as efficient as modern glass/gas they are very old windows also as those DGUs look thinner than modern day standards. maybe some new frames soon?

One of the windows will have to be replaced with privacy glass as it is now a downstairs bathroom and the other is a utility room. I also asked the glazing firm to quote for new frames as well (with internal beadings) because this did worry me, especially being at the rear of the house. The windows are exactly 15 years old, Fitted by the previous owner who used CR Smith and I'm not confident of the alleged quality.

EDIT: Looks like I misjudged CR Smith. Just spoke with my joiner who removed the dining room window of same type to replace with a door and he said there was all sorts of security stuff in place including security clips and some gasket which had to be removed from the inside first etc. Took him ages to remove the window he said.
