Has anyone had any experience of part-exing a camera at WEX? I've had a decent quote for my camera and they have a decent version of the camera I want to upgrade to so I'm tempted but has anyone had dealings with them for part-exing? I guess my main concern is that the value they actually credit my account with will be less than the value quoted. I've not lied regarding the condition or what's included so i'm not concerned from that POV but more that WEX might try and knock down the price a little bit.

I had a quote for a lens from them, but it was not as much as I'd been quoted from a local camera store, where I could take it in and get the condition assessed there and then. The camera I bought was about the same price as well, so it made sense to support a local shop, and avoid postage charges.

I've bought from their s/h department several times and found it to be very good, but I've never traded anything in - in fact one item was missing an item that the sales blurb indicated it should have, and they couldn't find it in their stores, so replaced that item with a new one.

I did get a valuation on a 50D body, but it was for a 1/3 of the price they were selling for on Ebay, so thats where it ended up.

i hav'nt used them for px but have purchased from them on a number of occasions.i would have thought that undervaluing your gear after a px would be "bad for business" word travels fast and if people started complaning about the px they got as being e.g. "unfair" they would soon lose sales. so not in there interest to give you a bad deal.if it was me i would find somewhere closer to home and deal on a face to face basis then you have an agreement on px before you even start to do a deal then its your decision whether to go ahead or not. hth mike

They will give you a firm price on inspection, then ask if you are happy with it first before debiting your acct.

i think the op is saying he would have to send it to them first and they "may not" agree with his assessment of his gear hth mike. e.g. £400 over the phone then receive and inspect the gear and offer £350.seller dos'nt like the idea so has to pay for return postage etc and still didn't get his px mike.

Possibly Mike, (although it doesn't quite read that way.) Anyway they will pay the postage, so if described honestly at the beginning, there shouldn't be a problem, other than waiting time for posting back & forth of course.

I part exchanged a lens just before Christmas and they give me a very good price. When the lens was received by them they said the lens was faulty and they wanted to return it to me. I stated that the lens was in perfect condition when it left me and I would be able to supply photos taken from the lens a couple of days prior to sending. I said that I would like to claim of there insurance if the lens was damaged in transit as they supplied the postage. The gentlemen I spoke to, Peter, then said he would speak to his manager and see what he could do. A few minutes later he called me and said that they had credited me with the full agreed price.

From my experience I would recommend using them, the Tokina lens I was selling MPB weren't even interested in.

Hope the above helps.

Simon

I've contacted MPB as well and the price they quoted was a joke in my opinion. I realise that PX prices are lower than if I were to sell the camera body on here or eBay etc but the price MPB gave was ~25% below what I'd expect but Wex was about what I was expecting.

Go for it, I believe they also pay return postage so you haven't anything to lose.

Also, form the part ex credit I purchased a LX7, which I returned as it was to small for my hands, I then bought a X20 which I was disappointed with for the price, slow focus, noise and handling as I am disabled. Their returns have been excellent on these occasions, although they were slowish to issue a refund on a faulty camera I purchased earlier in the year.

Hmm, sounds like they might be worth trying then. I agree that it wouldn't be in their best interests to start knocking customers down as they'd soon build up a poor reputation.

I've always used their site so see what the going price for new kit is but never actually had any dealings with them so it's good to hear others have had good experiences with them.

I part exchanged with Wex just before Christmas, the price offered was more or less what I expected, I was honest about condition and photographed everything plus the packaging before i sent the camera in, no quibbles got the price offered :):)

ah right didn't know about the return postage so maybe not so bad then.(y)

I part-ex'd with WEX a few months ago, having got quotes from other companies.

Their quote was a little less than the best quote, and when I told them this, they matched it.

I drove up to the showroom in Norwich, where they inspected and tested the item that I wanted to part/ex, agreed that it was exactly a described, and honoured the quote.

All very straight forward, efficient.

I'm sure they would be totally honest and reasonable, if you sent the item you want to part/ex.

I've also had a good experience usin WEX's part-ex. The quote was as I'd expected, and the part-ex itself was pretty quick with good communication throughout.

You should also get a quote from Camera Jungle, used PX specialists in the Surrey area, they offered me a very decent quote on a Micro 4/3rds kit. Cannot say more because I still hav'nt decided to take their offer up  Google them and see.

Hi
I partex a mint condition lens with WEX. I was initially offered an acceptable offer subject to inspection. I called them and requested any maneuverability to up the quote after inspection because I sent a mint condition lens with original box and all accessories with unopened cd and instruction booklet. After inspection they offered to up the original quote by £20. I was more than happy and used the £250 trade in bonus to buy a brand new lens. Very happy with their service.

I traded in my D800 with them - I was happy with the price offered but I may have been a bit harsh on the condition when I described it as they increased the offer slightly once they'd inspected the goods. I'd happily use them again, a very trouble free experience.

Bearing in mind the o/p was in Jan 2014 I'm guessing the matter has been dealt with :D
