Hi,

I'm at that stage where I'm thinking of upgrading my camera and wondered if anyone has used the part exchange system offered by Wex , MPD and the like. It would be nteresting to know what sort of experience people had and prices offered for equipment.

Thanks in advance, Dave.

I've used WEX before - I was happy enough with the trade-in price and the price of the kit I bought. Remember with some stores (e.g. WEX) the trade-in and purchase are separate transactions so you can haggle both.

I used Wex to trade in some gear when I bought the D750 earlier this year and also used them late last year. I was happy with them on both occasions. I got £110 for my D200... Didn't seem much, but added to the £150 cashback on the new body, I decided to go for it.

It's also worth remembering WEX offer store credit only, you have to buy the replacement from them. MPB offer cash trade ins so you are free to buy from them or anywhere else.

Ive used MPB a few times and found them to be good. Just remember you won't get as much as a private sale on here or other places.

I've used both without problems. Bear in mind that they pick your gear up free of charge.

Not used WEX, but MPB on a number of times, and cannot fault their service.

Also, used MPB great service with no issues, and as mentioned they collect!

Used wex and they gave me more than originally quoted due to the excellent condition I kept them in...great service. The Items I sold were grey imports too from Panamoz, I explained that to them.

That's interesting since their terms and conditions state, inter alia that,

11.1 In offering second hand products to us, you confirm and warrant that:

(iii) the products were originally purchased inside the EU (and you acknowledge that we reserve the right to require documentary evidence to confirm that this was the case);

Yeah very weird, but I was upfront before I asked, only thing they didn't want was the batteries from 3rd party vendors. I actually nearly got the same as what I paid.

All you need to do is ask if your in doubt

Thumbs up for mpb from me

Yes, because the original importer has specific duties in EU regulation. In most cases it isn't going to make a difference because the relevant markings (the CE mark) are generally affixed to all models and not just those for the EU market. But their solicitors will have insisted that the clause is in the terms and conditions so that they pass the buck back to you in the event of a problem, i.e. "We bought it in good faith in accordance with our terms and conditions and this is the chap you need to speak to about placing it on the EU market"

used both with no problems ..
WEX only give you credit to use with them only ....

Used MPB a number of times for both purchases and sales - excellent service, plus they are local to me.

I have used SRS Microsystems to purchase a new body and was given a very reasonable trade in on a lens along with a discount offer that was available at the time. As with WEX they are a very friendly and professional dealer which I would happily recommend.

I too am looking at going down this route, I put my 5D2 in the for sale section for £650 and have just done a online valuation with MPB and they have offered £630...either I am selling too cheap on here or MPB are over pricing my body ???

Thanks for all the replies, it's nice to hear that people have had good experiences with both Wex and MPD. Time to find the boxes and make a decision.

The MPB service is very efficient, no trade-in value is ever quite as high as you would like but that's life. I bought a used body (inc. battery) from MPB and it came with a third party battery that went flat (from fully charged that morning) in santa's grotto, wife and daughter unamused...I told MPB and they apologised and sent me two new original Nikon batteries FOC. Good customer service but I kind of wish they had checked what was being sent out with the camera in the first place. Might be worth confirming that all / any bits that coming with the camera are OEM.
