New to this forum, I usually use a US based one - primarily because I didn't know about this one.

I sought you out as I want to upgrade some of my kit but funds are tight, so I figured Part Exchange would be worth looking into. Problem is I don't know of any shops that take Part-X local to me.

I am looking to swap a Canon 24-70 f2.8L (as new with all packaging etc) for a Canon 60D, a Canon 30D (as new with all packaging etc) for a Canon 50 f1.4 and a Canon 180 macro (as new with all packaging etc) for a Canon 300 f4. I am expecting all new equipment and to add little to no cash to the trade - am I expecting too much?

Can anyone suggest a shop either in South Yorkshire or Manchester that offers this kind of service and doesn't set out to gouge the customer?

I don't want to go down the ebay/sell by post route as these are high value items I cannot afford to loose because paypal sides with an unscrupulous purchaser.

I think you are being very optimistic with your pricing.

Dealers are not charities, they are going to make a mark up on everything they sell. The sad fact is that if you want to maximise the price you get, you have to sell privately or go down the commission sale route.

You are probably right, perhaps I should hold onto my Glass. 30D does nothing wrong I just lust after some of the newer features, especially the flash control over my 580EX II.

Bide your time and wait for classifieds access on here, sell your gear then buy new/used youll get much better prices selling on here than any dealer can offer you.

you don't know until you ask! could always go down the ebay route but specify you only take cash on collection or cheques with no paypal

What kind of margin do they usually take on items compared to used prices?

A friend wanted to sell his canon 10-22mm, at the time used prices were between £320-380 for that lens, London Camera Exchange offered £190 for it.

Alot of people have said Mpb photographic make reasonable offers on used equipment, there's no harm in giving them a call, you might even be able to do a swap with some of their stock, but if you want top $$$, private sale (sale forum) is the way to go.
