Paris Rules Driving

far too many red lights
far too many pedestrian near-misses
hardly any traffic?
not a single flashing blue light
1 absolute plonker:rules:

Ah I thought it would be Rendezvous. Excellent short film, I've heard lots of rumors around this film. That the car was a Le Mans prototype, the director was put in prison for a short while over it. I don't know who the driver was though but I don't think he was charged.

Correct - on first showing the director was arrested and charged though he has never divulged the name of the driver as far as is known...

The official blurb:

Some background - despite what the poster claims...
On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris early in the morning.
The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.
No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit. The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 kmph in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets.
Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the film went underground.

:D Thanks for that, interesting stuff.

Haven't people tried to copy it in the past? Except with closed roads.

EDIT: Found it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj4tEF5jvmk thought I remembered a 350z version.

Closed roads though, not the same :p

Now that is what you call a soundtrack :D

I'm guessing this had more than a little say in the artistic direction for the "Chasing Cars" video for the Snow Patrol song?

Love the sound, respect the skill BUT

sorry, that's beyond madness

I prefer to take it straight, as advertised, so PLEASE hold the crappola comments.

ANY AND ALL derogatory stuff WILL be removed, so save your breath.

Ah right, he can take it straight provided it's positive

He's just the poster of the vid clip - not the maker of the film - he wants us to think that, but a few of us saw this years ago...
Sorry, maybe I should have made that clearer, but it was the only link that allowed copying - the others required account log-ins.

Novel way to clear the street of pigeons :)

Had me cringing at a few junctions. Dangerous and irresponsible driving but I kind of enjoyed watching it. Switched to the full screen view option. Awful picture quality but more dramatic.

the skill of the driver is amazing, and not lucky, it just shows that some people have an amazing aptitude for some things.

 so there's no luck involved at all? The driver has full knowledge of what other drivers are going to do at all times, and could predict the future?

Sounds like he missed his calling as a mind reader and lottery winner.

had a big discussion about this once before. most of us came to the conclusion that some of it is sped up with the sound put on afterwards...

take a look at some of the things going on in the surroundings... birds flying at sonic speed, indicators flashing faster than they should.. All the other cars and bikes in the movie are doing about 100 mph too.

I thought something was up when he sounded like he was really going for it, yet a 2CV wasn`t going much slower than him!

It looks a lot faster than it appears due to the low angle...

Not so easy to dub sountracks back then - if you look closely at the gear-changes (the picture 'jumps' slightly at each shift) the sound corresponds with the shift-pattern.

Dead easy to do now, but back then with analogue sound studios?

Also rumours that the camera was mounted on a Mercedes are just that - rumours...no-one will ever know the full story as that would mean identifying the other parties involved and for obvious reasons, they're reticent to come forward...

Entertaining - but what a crazy irresponsible [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER]!

I like the soundtrack on this one. :D
